FLIGHT, 7 September 1956 THE DISPLAY PILOTS 441 W7C. R. F. MARTIN,D.F.C., A.F.C. (Javelin): Graduated from Cranwell,1939, served with 73 Sqn. in France, also withM.E.A.F. and Transport Command. Went toE.T.P.S. after war and later was flight commander atR.A .E. Subsequently re- turned to E.T.P.S. as in-structor. Has over 3,600 hr on ISO types and is nowGloster Aircraft Company's chief test pilot. D. MASTERS (GannetA.S.4): Now senior test pilot, Fairey Aviation Com-pany, Ringway. Served in R.A.F.V.R. from 1938-46.Became instructor with Rhodesian Air TrainingGroup 1940-43. Served with Bomber Command1944-46, in which year he took course at E.T.P.S.Joined Faireys in 1946. H.MEREWETHER (Hun-ter F.6): Joined Hawkers in 1954 and serves as a pro-duction test pilot. Trained with R.N. as pilot till endof the war; started flying again on joining 615 Sqn.R.Aux.A.F. Has flown Furies, Vampires, Attack-ers and Meteors. Spent five years in Vickers-Armstrongsresearch department and has an engineering B.Sc.degree. P. MOORE (Bristol 173and Sycamore): Served as fighter pilot during the warand in 1946 joined Cam- brian Air Services, laterbecoming chief pilot. Joined Pest Control, Ltd., in 1948and converted to helicop- ters. With Bristols from1953, flew Sycamore on demonstrations in Germanyand Austrian Tyrol last year and on charter workwith AJf.A. in Tasmania this year. R. MORRIS (GannetA.S.4): Served with the R.A.F. from 1943-44, thentransferred to R.N. until 1950. Recalled six monthslater and served as pilot and deck-landing control officertill 1952, when he joined Faireys. In 1953 completedNo. 12 course at E.T.P.S. M. MORSS (Javelin):Joined Glasgow U.A.S. in 1947, and the R.A.F. threeyears later. Subsequently went as technician to A.and A.E.E. Before joining Gloster Aircraft in 1955flew for some years with 615 Squadron, Ruiux.A.F.His flying time is rather over 1,300 hours. Lt.-Cdr. J. G. P. MOR-TON (Ultra Light Helicop- ter): Entered R.N. 1943.Flight Commander 1835 Sqn. in 1944-45. Servedin H.M.S. Colossus and Theseus. In 1949 becameFlight Commander, Heli- copter Flight, UnderwaterDevelopment Establish- ment. Attended C.F.S. andlater A. and A.E.E. In March 1955 was lent toFaireys from H.M.S. Cen- taur. Joined the companyas test pilot soon after. S. B. OLIVER (Pembrokeand President): Served in R.A.F. and imij commis-sioned in 1945. Took short- service commission withAir Branch, R.N. in 1945. Attended Central FlyingSchool for instructor's course and, later, went toE.T.P.S. Was a naval test pilot at A. and A.E.E. from1951-52. Released from Navy in 1954 to joinHunting Perdvals. G. R. I. PARKER, D.F.C.,A.F.C., D.S.M. (Beverley): Experimental pilot atBrough, having joined R.A.F. in 1934. Was with219 Night Fighter Sqn. in 1944 and a year later be-came test ptlot at R.A.E. Joined General Aircraft in1948, and more recently carried out first flight ofHJP.SS at Brough. A. J. PEGG.O.B.E. (BristolBritannia 101 and 301): Bristol chief lest pilot since1947. Learned to fly in 1925 and served with 43Sqn. as instructor. Ap- pointed lest pilot, A. andA.E.E. 1930; became assist- ant chief test pilot in sameyear. Was - pilot of the Britannia during Americantour in August. G. H. PIKE (Heron):Was apprenticed to de Havillands in 1934. JoinedR.A.F. Reserve in 1936, and the R.A.F.V.R. in 1938.Was commissioned in 1939, became a lest pilot withthe Engine Company in 1940 and two years latertransferred to the Aircraft Company, and is now ex-perimental lest pilot. R. PLENDERLEITH,D.F.C. (Sperrin): Joined R.A.F. Reserve in 1937 andthe R.A.F. in 1939. After taking part in the Battle ofBritain served in the Middle East and later in Italy. Hasbeen a lest pilot with de Havilland Engine Companysince 1947. •^w*.tiX—~-y-.,-" .T,1;. S/L. R. L. PORTEOUS(Auster Aiglet trainer): Chief test pilot and salesrepresentative of Auster Aircraft. Learned to fly in1935 at D.H. From 1937 was in R.A.F.O., and withPhillips and Powis (Miles) Aircraft from 1938-39. B. RADLEY (Pembrokeand President): Has been Hunting Percival test pilotsince 1953. Was night fighter pilot with 125 Sqn.during the war, and became R.A.F. test pilot in 1946.Took No. 8 course, E.T.P.S., in 1949 and wasexperimental test pilot at R.A.E. for two years. Flewwith Sabena for six months before joining the company. S/L.M.RANDRUP (Scor-pion-Canberra) : Before the war was a charier pilot,joining R.AJ*. as instructor in 1940. In 1942 was fighterpilot in Spitfiires. Since the war has been test pilot inindustry and at R.A.E. Has been Napiers' chief testpilot since 1946 and has 4,500 hours. K. REED (Skeeter): Hasbeen Saunders-Roe test pilot since 1952. Served inR.N. 1941-49. Formed and commanded R.N. Helicop-ter Squadron No. 705. Took helicopter course in U.S.A.,1943, and qualified as only RM. helicopter instructor.Joined Westlands in 1949 as test pilot. Carried outfirst passenger helicopter service London-Birming-ham in 1951. H. C. ROGERS, D.F.C.(Rolls-Royce -engined types): Joined R.A.F. in1938 as aircraft apprentice. Trained as pilot in 1941 andflew Lancasters on opera- tions. Served also withTransport Command before leaving the Service. Ap-pointed C.F.I. Tollerton Airport until joining Rolls-Royce in 1948. G/C. R. G. SLADE(F.D.2): Was commissioned in R.A.F. in 1933 and wasa test pilot at A. and A.EM, in 1937-39, and continuedthere after Establishment moved to Boscombe. Sub-sequently served with Fighter and Bomber Com-mands and in British Air Forces of Occupation untiltaking up present appoint- ment as chief test pilot atFairey Aviation Company in 1946.
