FLIGHT, 21 September 1956 A quartet of Convair F-102A supersonic intercepted makes a stirring sight and leaves the onlooker wondering how the centre of gravity has been brought into line with the centre of lift. Beneath the port wing of a Chance Vought F7U-3M Cutlass of the U.S. Navy can be seen two Sperry Sparrow air-to-air guided missiles. The outer weapons are toed inwards at some 75 deg. OKLAHOMA . . . To the left, above, is a photograph of the starboard armament/fuel pod of the Northrop F-89H Scorpion; immediately above can be seen the inner side of the corresponding pod on the port wing. It houses 21 Mighty Mouse spin-stabilized rockets, three GAR-1 Falcon homing missiles (shown extended far firing) and a quantity of fuel. One of the more unusual Martin-built Canberras is the B-57E target tug. Below can be seen the banner-containers and towing anchors. The photograph below shows Sparrow missiles on a McDonnell F3H-2M Demon supersonic fighter of the U.S. Navy.
