23 November 1956 821 G irt iCt TO do everything in a bit way is the technical and business philosophy of the Boeing Airplane Company. Boeing are used to taking in their stride such pro- grammes as the building of 888 C-97 Stratofreighters, the last example of which—a recently delivered KC-97 tanker/ transport—is seen at upper left; and fifty-odd civil Stratocruisers have been giving exemplary service for several years. Now, with the last of the C-97s out of the shops, the company is moving into top gear on an all-jet programme. On the military side this centres on the KC-13S—the C-97's successor, depicted in prototype form at lower left—and on the B-52 Stratofortress eight-jet heavy bomber. A B-52C presents itself above. Boeing's own production of the B-47 Stratojet (one is seen stabled with a KC-97 in the fourth picture) is now con- cluded; but with firm orders for 134 Model 707 civil transports on the books things are still "going great" for this big- thinking, big-doing, American company.
