Production and Allocation The serial numbers give the most accurate surviving measure of pro-duction of each type, but cannot be regarded as a complete record. Short S.81: One lj-pounder Vickers semi-automaticgun on the front of the nacelle; later, one six-pounder Davis gun. Short 135/136: Bombs carried externally. Short i66: One 14in tor-pedo or three 112-lb bombs; one Lewis machine-gun, fired by the observer. Short 827/830: Bombs on external racks under the fuselage;one Lewis gun for observer. Short 184: One 14in torpedo between the floats, or various combinations of bombs up to a maximum (known)load of 520 lb; one Lewis gun on Whitehouse or Scarff mounting (the Short 184 Type D carried nine 65 lb bombs within the fuselage, stowedvertically).
