Poland Aircraft Production. Part of the Com-munications Equipment Factory at Mielce has been turned over to the production ofsports and training aircraft and of metal gliders. The Kama glider tug is now near-ing completion, and the M-2 two-seat trainer is under construction. The M-2will be in the class of the Zlin 26 and Junak II and will be of all-metal construc-tion. Quantity production could begin in 1958. It is thought that the Mielce factorycould without difficulty produce a hundred all-metal gliders annually, suitable not onlyfor home use but for export to such cus- tomers as India and China. A prototypeshould be completed in about six months. Norway North American F-86F Sabre. Norway is now getting its first F-86F Sabres and by the summer two squadrons will have been equipped with this type in replacement of Republic Thunderjets. Italy New Designs. The Italian Air Ministryis interested in a twin-engined communica- tions and Jight transport aircraft beingdesigned by SIAI Marchetti. The first version will have turboprops (apparentlyRolls-Royce Darts) and a later model with turbojets is foreseen. The Macchi concernwill fly the first prototype of its MB.326 trainer (Armstrong Siddeley Viper) to-wards the end of the year. Agusta are completing the twin-engined AZ.8L anda 14-seat helicopter in which the Italian Air Ministry is interested. The NardiFN.333 amphibian is not flying at present. The first pilot to fly the type was killedwhen the aircraft spun involuntarily during a stall check with flaps down. Itwas rebuilt and Ing. Ferrari took it into the air, but he has now ceased his workon the type. The machine has now completed its initial tests and certi-fication tests are under way. Piaggio are designing the P. 155 amphibian, with a4,000 h.p. turboprop. Military and civil versions are in prospect. Aviamilano arehard at work on a batch of 30 Falcos and on the prototype four-seater Nibbio F.I4,and Pasotti are completing tests on the Airone F.6 with Walter engines and arestudying a version powered with Lycoming engines. Switzerland Aircraft Developments. Following therejection by the Swiss Parliament of the proposal to order 40 Marcel DassaultMystere IVAs (already recorded in Flight), a Hawker Hunter F.6 and a CanadairSabre 6 have been extensively evaluated by Swiss test pilots. Examples of these aircrafthave frequently been seen over Zurich recently. Additionally, a Hunter two-seaterhas been demonstrated, and the Swiss military minister, Mr. Chaudet, wasthereby enabled (reports a Swiss correspon- dent) to become "the first supersonic mem-ber of the Bundesrat." In Basle, a Bell 47J has been delivered to the SchweizerischeRettungsflugwacht (Alpine rescue organiza- tion). This is the first helicopter of itstype in Europe and 500,000 Swiss francs necessary for its purchase, maintenance,etc., were enthusiastically subscribed by the Swiss people.
