"Flight" photograph When this composite Javelin/Hunter formation was depicted last week a garbled caption misrepresented the squadrons concerned. The Javelins, in fret, belong to No. 141 Squadron (W/C. P. L Chilton, D.S.O., D.F.C., A.F.C.), and the Hunters to No. 74 Squadron (S/L K. N. Haselwood). SERVICE AVIATION . . . 1955 and before that was A.C.A.S. (Policy)from September 1953. He qualified as a specialist navigator at Calshot in 1931 andearly in the war was in charge of the navi- gation branch at Air Ministry. In 1942he became Group Captain i/c Training at H.Q. Flying Training Command; in 1943he commanded R.A.F. Chivenor and in 1944 he took over a special appointmentat Plymouth to plan anti-U-boat opera- tions by the R.A.F. and the R.N. forD-day, for which he was later awarded the C.B.E. A. Cdre Rae, who is an Australian, hassince April 1955 commanded R.A.F. Bos- combe Down and was previously DeputyDirector of Flying Training at Air Minis- try. After armament duties in the FarEast from 1937 he was appointed in 1942 to command R.A.F. Tengah, Malaya, butin 1943 was reported missing and was sub- sequently found to be a prisoner of war.After his liberation in 1945 he joined the Empire Air Armament School at Manby,Lines, and he has since held command at the Central Gunnery School at Leconfkld,R.A.F.
