FLIGHT U.S.A. Corvuair £-58. Fifty different versions ofpods for the B-58 Hustler supersonic bomber (reports Aviation Week) have beenstudied thus far. The possibility is men- tioned of a powerplant being carried in apod to increase speed—already in the vicinity of Mach 2. The power unit couldbe a turbojet, ramjet or rocket. When range is a primary factor the pod couldcarry fuel. In the present configuration both fuel and bomb space are provided.Electronic counter-measures or cameras are other possible contents. Douglas AAD-2 Skyhawk. Althoughweighing only 8,300 1b empty and having a nominal gross weight of about 15,500 lb,the Skyhawk attack bomber has already been flown at a gross weight of more than22,000 lb. France Dassault Super Mystere IVB.2. OurGerman contemporary, Flug-Review, has published a report by German test pilotWolfgang Spate on a flight in the third prototype Mystere IVB.2 at Melun. Spategave very few details of performance except that he climbed to 42,700ft to starthis evaluation, found no transonic dis- turbances whatever, but failed to obtain anindication above Mach 1 on the level at a height of 27,300ft, with 1,320 lb of fuelremaining. He was told to try again between 38,000ft and 42,500ft, and afterzooming to the last-named height he reached nearly Mach 1.3 with ease. At thisspeed he said the aircraft felt "like a tourer at 135 m.p.h." Max Holste Broussard. The first threeBroussards for the French Navy should now have been delivered.
