Hosegood (.Bristol 173 and Sycamore):Chief helicopter test pilot of Bristol Aircraft. Joined Royal Navy in 1939, and after completinga course of specialized helicopter flying training in the U.S.A. in 1944, was appointed naval experi-mental helicopter pilot and loaned to the R.A.F. at Helicopter Experimental Establishment. JoinedBristols in 1948 to assist with flight testing of helicopters. J. J. M. Jeffery (Skeeter): Became Saunders-Roetest pilot in 1951. After joining Fleet Air Arm as pilot in 1940, he graduated in first HelicopterInstructors' Course in the U.S. in 1943. Became a naval helicopter test pilot in 1944-46, attachedto the Aerial Torpedo Development Unit and Air/ Sea Warfare Development Unit. C. A. C. Jonas (Reverse-thrust Hunter): Wasgranted permanent commission in R.A.F., having joined Cambridge U.A.S. in 1947. Completed atour in Transport Command on Hastings, and attended the E.T.P.S. course in 1952. Servedwith "B" Squadron at A. and A.E.E. at Boscombe Down, joining Rolls-Royce in 1954. D. McM. Knight (Canberra B(I)8): Went toEnglish Electric as a production test pilot in 1953. Started flying in 1949 with the R.A.F., and from1951-54 was a member of No. 603 (City of Edin- burgh) Sqn., R.Aux.A.F. Has flown many differ-ent types of aircraft, including Meteors and Spitfires. T. E. Lampitt (.Scorpion-Canberra): After joiningthe R.A.F. in 1949, he served with No. 43 Sqn. from 1952-56. Was a member of the squadronand Fighter Command Formation Acrobatic Team, 1954-56 and has been at many flying dis-plays and exhibitions, including the Famborough Golden Jubilee display, Paris Aero Show and theopening of Fiumicino Airport, Rome. He has flown 1,750 hr on 35 types. Capt. R. Langley (Accountant): Served in theR.A.F. from 1941-46, and was awarded a D.F.C. in 1944. Was an instructor at Upper Heyford in1944, and was seconded to B.O.A.C on contract until 1952, when he joined Air Charter, Ltd. Has10,300 hr on 14 types. Lt-Cdr. M. J. Lithgow (Scimitar): Deputy chieftest pilot of Vickers-Armstrongs. He joined the Royal Navy in 1938 and in 1943 became test pilotat A. and A.E.E. Has been at E.T.P.S. and then naval test pilot with the British Air Commissionin U.S. until 1945. In 1953 he set up a world air speed record of 735.7 m.p.h. in a Swift over theLibyan Desert. D. Lockspeiser (Hunter Mk. 6): Trained in designdepartment of F. G. Miles and then Armstrong Whitworth, and later joined R.A.F. on short ser-vice commission in 1949. Was with No. 6 F.T.S., No. 203 A.F.S. and No. 229 O.C.U. Served withNos. 118 and 245 Sqns. before joining Hawker Aircraft in 1955. Has 2,000 flying hours. D. Mclntosh (Student): Joined the R.A.F. in1941, and served with Fighter Command until 1946. Was with the R.Aux.A.F. 1946-55, and hasbeen test flying since 1955 with F. G. Miles, Ltd. D. J. Masters (Gannet T. Mk. 5): Served inR.A.F.V.R. from 1938-46, and was instructor, Rhodesian Air Training Group, 1940-43. From1944 until 1946 he was with Bomber Command, and then went to E.T.P.S. He joined the FaireyAviation Company in 1946 and is the senior test pilot at Ringway. S/L. J. O. Mathews (F.D.2): Became a test pilotwith Fairey Aviation Company in 1946, having joined R.A.F. in 1940. After serving with No. 125(Newfoundland) Sqn., was seconded as Liaison Officer with U.S. Army Air Force- Was a nightfighter pilot with No. 157 Sqn. and took part in anti-flying-bomb patrols. Destroyed 11 enemyaircraft and was awarded D.F.C. and Bar, and later the D.S.O. H. C. H. Merewether (Hunter variant): SouthAfrican by birth, served in the Fleet Air Arm 1943-46 a,nd was trained as a pilot by the U.S.Navy in 1944-45. Served in R.A.F.V.R., 1947-51 and the R.Aux.A.F. (No. 615 Sqn.), 1951-56.Was later with Vickers-Armstrongs as a techni- cian in the research and development departmentand joined Hawkers as a test pilot in 1954. Has some 1,970 flying hr on 22 aircraft types. D. W. Morgan (Scimitar): Has been experimentaltest pilot with Vickers-Supermarine since 1950. He joined the R.A.F. in 1942 and later transferredto the Royal Navy. Completed a course at the E.T.P.S. in 1947, and in 1952 was awarded theGeoffrey de Havilland Trophy for setting up London-Brussels speed record of 665.9 m.pih. ina Swift. R. Morris (Gannet T. Mk. 5): After serving withthe R.A.F. from 1943-44, transferred to Royal Navy until 1950. Was recalled six months laterand was pilot and deck-landing control officer until 1952, when he joined the Fairey AviationCompany. He took the E.T.P.S. course in 1953. Lt-Cdr. J. G. P. Morton (Fairey Ultra-Light):After entering R.N. in 1943 received flying train- ing with U.S. Navy. Became Flight CommanSer,No. 1835 Sqn., from 1944-45. Served in H.M.S. Colossus and Theseus. Was Flight Commander,Helicopter Flight, Underwater Development Establishment, 1949-50, and then at C.F.S., A.and A.E.E., and H.M.S. Centaur, when he was lent to Faireys. Joined the company in 1955. S. B. Oliver Jet Provost): Joined the R.A.F. in1942 and trained as pilot, being commissioned in 1945. Transferred to R.N. Air Branch in 1945.After instructor's course at C.F.S., he took E.T.P.S. course in 1950. Served as naval testpilot at A. and A.B.E. in 1951-52 and joined Hunting Percival in 1954. B. Radley (Pembroke): After joining the R.A.F.in 1938, he became a night fighter pilot in No. 125 Sqn. during the war, and an R.A.F. test pilot in1946. Was at E.T.P.S. in 1949, and at R.A.B. for 21 years. Flew with Sabena for six monthsbefore joining Hunting Percival in 1953. Has 4,000 flying hr. K. Reed (Skeeter): Served in Royal Navy from1941-49 and formed and commanded No. 705 Helicopter Sqn. Qualified as the only R.N. heli-copter instructor and was also an R.N. main- tenance test pilot. Flew the first British passengerhelicopter service between London and Birming- ham in 1951 and joined Saunders-Roe in 1952.
