Malaya PostC OMMANDANT of the Central FlyingSchool since January 1956, A. Cdre. N. C. Hyde was due this month to takeup the appointment of Air Officer Com- manding the new Federation of Malaya AirForce, which is now in process of formation. Among A. Cdre. Hyde's post-warappointments have been the command of R.A.F. Waterbeach (1947) and of R.A.F.Binbrook (1951). In 1948 he joined the planning staff of the Anglo-American Com-bined Air Lift Task Force H.Q., from which the Berlin Airlift was directed, andhe later compiled the official R.A.F. report on that operation. Before the war he wasat the A. and A.E.E. at Martlesham Heath, where air gunnery trials with Hurricanesand Spitfires were among his duties. He took command of No. 207 Sqn., the firstbomber squadron to fly Manchesters, in late 1940; but during a raid over Kiel hisaircraft was set on fire. A. Cdre. Hyde and his crew baled out and he had to spendthe rest of the war as a prisoner. EM BRIEF Two young airmen, S. A/C. M. Tatlowand S. A/C. W. Egerton, made R.A.F. riding history at the Royal Tournamentwhen on June 7 they came first and second (riding Tradesman and Polonaiserespectively) in the Prince of Wales Cup and when four days later Tatlow went on towin the King's Cup.
