Esso service to aviation was merely 5 years old when "Flight" joined the pioneers of aviation. Gigantic strides have been made in the years be- tween. Before that historic first hop at Kittyhawk, Orville Wright took on board two gallons of Esso gasoline, filtered through the traditional chamois leather in a funnel's mouth. Today, Esso Aviation refuels giant jetliners via underwing manifolds at the rate of 1,000 gallons a minute. Esso is proud to have pioneered the majority of developments that have brought about such advancement; developments which have been faithfully reported in a journal that has won the admiration of Britain and the world for its honesty of purpose and single-minded devotion to the progress of aviation. Supersonic flight has become fact. Stratospheric flight is "on the way". In their respective spheres, both "Flight" and Esso are hastening the achieve- ment by direct contributions to aviation's progress. Flight in the 21st century is already the concern of Esso technologists ESSO PETROLEUM COMPANY LIMITED 36 QUEEN ANNE'S GATE • LONDON S. W. I Aviation Technical Service • Telephone; RELiance 1261
