20 FEBRUARY 1959 FLIGHT DEVELOPED FRO EXPERIENCE The by-pass principle which Rolls-Royce have proved in the Conway engine is now accepted as the correct formula for all jet transport and for certain military applications. The new RB.141 family of by-pass jet engines is based on seven years' development experience of the by- pass principle gained with the Conway and on six years' operation of other gas turbine engines in air- line service. The first of this series has already been chosen to power the new British European Airways medium range jet airliner.
