20 MARCH 1959 FLIGHT 45 PUBLIC APPOINTMENTS INSTRUCTOR BRANCH, ROYAL NAVY A PPLICATIONS are invited for Short Service Com-A missions in the Instructor Branch of the Royal Navy. The primary requirement is for men of goodpersonal qualities with degrees (or the equivalent) in Mathematics, Physics or Engineering (Mechanical,Electrical and Aeronautical) but graduates in Chemistry, Metallurgy, History, Geography orEnglish will also be considered. An additional require- ment exists for non-graduates with teaching qualifica-tions. SERVICE in the Instructor Branch combines all theadvantages of life in the Royal Navy—e.g., com-radeship, travel, a wide variety of cultural and sport- ing activities, a high standard of living, responsibility,etc.—with the opportunity to utilise scientific, tech- nological and professional qualifications to the full.THE work of the Instructor Officer is fundamental to the Fleet and covers the widest field of opera-tional, technical and academic duties ashore and afloat, ranging from basic instruction to work on thelatest developments in nuclear power and guided weapons. Instructor Officers are also the meteorologistsof the Royal Navy. OTE also:— CTUDENTS in their final year may apply. DESIGN DRAUGHTSMEN Electrical and Electronic Applicants must be fully experiencedin either the design of high-reliability electronic equipment or in the instal-lation of such equipment to ensure functioning under arduous conditions.
