524 FLIGHT, 17 April 1959 THE AIRLINES' SHOPPING LIST-No. 6 THE market has been less ebullient since Flight's last shop-pang list was published on September 19, but two new Britishtypes appear for the first time. Armstrong Whitworth's AW.650 got away to a good start in February with an order fromthe U.S. all-freight carrier Riddle (backed by a substantial order from die R.A.F. for the AW.660 variant) and, very much for thefirst time, this list of turbine transports includes a transport helicopter—die Fairey Rotodyne. Five have been ordered byNew York Airways, and an option has been placed on a further 15. The helicopter airline will pay about £|m each for their Rotodynes.Changes in other airline orders are as follows: — Boeing 720. An Aerlinte order for three for transatlanticoperation was placed in March. Convair 880. Heavy financial liabilities, including a mortgage agreement with Vickers and Rolls-Royce, have resulted in doubtsabout Capital Airlines' nine aircraft. Swissair have bought five, two of which will be leased to S.A.S. Bristol Britannia. Numbers remain the same. A further aircrafthas been purchased by Air Charter but a Britannia 300 series for the Ministry of Supply is being taken under a hire arrangement. Lockheed Electro. An order for 10 aircraft from Northwest Air-lines has increased the total to 161. Fokker Friendship. The total of Fokker-built Friendships hasbeen adjusted to 52; Aviacion y Commercio's order for six aircraft is "still under negotiation. Sabena's order for 12 no longer appears, but an order for a similar number has been placed by the Royal Netherlands Air Force. Fairchild have received a number of neworders to bring the current total from 71 to 90.
