558 m jmii~ n $& Airline Scheduled COMPILATION 19S8 was a year of uncertain traffic development for the world's scheduled carriers. Global traffic is estimated by I.C.A.O. to have increased last year by 5 per cent. Passenger, freight and mail loads expanded by 5, 1 and 7 per cent respectively. But as airline capacity increased even more rapidly, load factors fell to a level where the industry as a whole must have shown a loss. The following statistics are the latest available and show how individual carriers have fared as compared with the industrial average. With the exception of the section showing U.S. carriers (in which traffic figures include data for non-scheduled services) the statistics relate only to scheduled operations.
