But Handley Page Transport Ltd. pioneers Britain's overseas air routes, later forming the nucleus of Imperial Airways. 1929-39 Handley Page's slot- ted wing makes the world's aeroplanes truly safe. Its eight Hannibal/Heracles airliners carry half a million passengers without injury to one. 1939-49 War production of Hampden and Halifax bombers is tremendous. Neither before nor since has the R.A.F. been without Handley Page aircraft in active service. 1949-59 Premier V-bomber, the Victor becomestheworld's biggest aeroplane to fly faster than sound. Handley Page's laminar-flow concept promises magic - carpet efficiency in the air.
