21 AUGUST 1959 FLIGHT 17 Focus on Infinity... the SPERRY Visual Flight Director projects azimuth, pitch and air speed on to the windscreen Increased safety during low flying and the approach to landing . . . The Sperry Visual Flight Director enables a pilot to keep obstacles in view through the windscreen, considerably reducing the need to refocus his eyes and snatch gKmpses of the " basic " instrument panel. A simple optical principle is used, which throws an image of the " Zero Reader " Indicator on to the windscreen. Controllable intensity of illum- ination permits the pilot to match the V.F.D. image with the external light available. For bad- weather landing, an airspeed director term is included in the V.F.D. display. Extensive trials have shown that the Sperry Visual Flight Director is an invaluable aid for military and civil pilots : to avoid the mounting risks of in-flight collision; for bad-weather land- ing, coupled to I.L.S. localiser and glide-path beams; and in all conditions of high-speed, low- level flying. SPERRY a world-famous name in precision controls SPERRY GYROSCOPE COMPANY LIMITED, GREAT WEST ROAD, BRENTFORD, MIDDLESEX. Telephone: ISLeworth 1241 Telex: 238OO - ; . .__ •-.-.-," ,.v ^.; ; -> ;
