JGHT, 1 January 1960 15 No other aeroplane has so much hung beneath Us wings as the B-52G, the missile-platform giant of the USAF Strategic Air Command. With a gross weight of 450,0001b (one example has flown at 4880001b) the G is the heaviest aeroplane in the world, and can carry its full military load at least 9,000 miles without air refuelling. Compared with earlier B-S2s the G has a shorter fin, a remote-control system between a gunner in the forward compartment and the unmanned rear turret, increased inter- nal fuel capacity (the wing is an integral tank), provision for a GAM-72 Quail decoy, improved defensive, control and penetration devices, and pylons for two North American GAM-77 Hound Dog missiles (which are shown in place in the drawing). The aircraft is now in regular service with SAC heavy bomber wings "Flight" copyright drawing by D. I.
