30 FLIGHT 23 SEPTEMBER i960 joins the ARMY From Westland Aircraft Limited — the Helicopter Group of the British Aircraft Industry — comes the P531/2 Mk.1. helicopter, the latest addition to the mobility and striking power of the British Army. This versatile general purpose 5/6 seat helicopter has been designed and built in accordance with requrements specified by the Services. It has a low silhouette and smalldimensions which together with its clear, all-round visi- bility and excellent manoeuvering characteristics make it extremely suitable for reconnaissance and liaison duties. Having been designed for operation in the field, its 885 s.h.p. Blackburn Nimbus free-turbine engine, controls and other equipment are easily accessible which facilitates servicing and maintenance especially when the aircraft is away from established bases.
