Aerogalley Ltd, Gatwick House, Horley, Surrey, supply a complete range of galley equipment—the basic structure, removable boxes, electrical heating equipment, meal trays and tableware. The last-named is mostly made to Aerogalley's own design, with due regard for space and weight considerations, and from the company's own tools; the range includes not only plastics and paper throwaway ware, but also Wedgwood earthenware, Swedish- made glass, designed for airline stowage, Sheffield silver-plate cutlery in miniature, and stainless-steel cutlery specially made in Holland. Aerogalley are agents for two German firms, Sell-Haus and Dr Stiebel-Werke GmbH. The latter make the Stiebel Eltron range of electrically-heated equip ment—hot-meal containers, hot-jugs, coffee makers, water heaters, and so on; purchasers of this equipment include United Arab Airlines, Middle East Airlines, Syrian Arab Airlines, Ghana Airways and BE A. Sell-Haus are producers of galley struc tures and of the Juno air-circulating de frosting oven, which has been supplied to Ghana Airways for their Britannias and to de Havilland for the Comets of United Arab Airlines. The latest Juno oven can be used not only for de-freezing deep-frozen meals but also for grilling fresh steaks and •chicken. Well known in the engineering world for fluid control valves, the Saunders Valve Co Ltd, Blackfriars Street, Hereford, also make an important contribution to the hygienic handling of water and beverages in aircraft galleys. No contamination or unpleasant taste from the operating mech anism should permeate beverages dispensed through Saunders' diaphragm taps and valves: the fluid contacts only the stainless- steel or aluminium body and a tasteless rubber diaphragm, which completely iso lates the operating mechanism. Some taps are supplied in colours to match the air craft furnishings. Specialists in the design, styling and manufacture of aircraft interior equipment include Fliteform Ltd, Building 222, Eastern Perimeter Road, London Airport. They make galleys, bar units, toilets, bulkheads, and tables, mostly designed for attachment to existing aircraft seat rails and/or luggage racks. They also supply accessories in wood, metal or plastics—shelves, locks, lamp-covers, cup-holders and so on. Among their customers during the past year have been BEA, BOAC, BUA, Cunard Eagle, Transair, Vickers-Armstrongs (Air craft) Ltd, and Handley Page (Reading) Ltd. • Toilet Equipment THERE are two approaches to the design of flushing closets for aircraft installation. There is the permanently installed closet which has a connection for a ground- servicing unit. Equipment of this type has been designed and made by Vickers-Arm- strongs (Aircraft) Ltd and is installed on Vanguards and the future VC10 aircraft. In the other type of unit, the entire closet is lifted out of the aircraft for servicing and replaced by a fresh unit. The well-estab lished self-contained flushing closet designed by Delaney Gallay Ltd, Vulcan Works, Edgware Road, London NW2, is of this type. It is made of stainless steel throughout, and the pan is sealed off from the container by a trapdoor which opens only when the unit is flushed. The latter process is effected Aircraft flushing-closet by Delaney Gallay Ltd by an internal mechanical pump, which can be either hand- or foot-operated. Delaney Gallay closets are fitted to numerous Viscount 800-series and Friend ship airliners and are specified for series installation in the Comet and the Argosy. They have also been widely adopted for executive conversions, since they involve no problems of fuselage modification and no extra tanks. The dry weight of the unit is 281b; and time required for changing the unit between flights is approximately 20min. Lavatory units are among the aircraft components produced by C. F. Taylor (Metal Workers) Ltd, Molly Millar's Lane. Wokingham, Berks, and their range includes an advanced type which can be flushed either from aircraft pneumatic services or from a self-contained pressure system. Toilet units are also among the product? of W. Henshall & Sons (Addlestone) Ltd mentioned on page 137. To keep the toilet fresh and clean, a good sanitary fluid is essential. Racasan non- corrosive fluid, supplied by Racasan Ltd. Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, is formulated to ensure odourless sanitation, adequate dis infecting, and trouble-free disposal. • Basic Materials and Detail Fittings ADEQUATE rigidity combined with mini mum weight is a primary requirement for aircraft furnishings such as bulkheads, tables, storage units and so on. One satis factory answer is sandwich construction, using a low-density honeycomb core sand wiched between thin skins of higher-density materials such as plywood, metal or plastics. A wide variety of structural honeycomb is available from Dufaylite Developments Ltd, Essex Road, Boreham Wood, Herts, in cluding honeycombs made from resin- impregnated Kraft paper, cotton, glass-fibre cloth, and aluminium. The company also offer an advisory service on methods of manipulation, application and lamination. Complete structural laminates known a? Mafliie E.G.B., and comprising a balsa core faced with Durestos or aluminium alloy sheeting, are well-established favour ites for aircraft flooring and bulkhead con struction. The makers, William Mallinson & Sons Ltd, Thames Road, Crayford, Kent, now record a growing interest in these lightweight laminates for cabin hard trims; thinner laminates down to iin thick ness are being used for self-supporting ceiling panels, luggage racks and equipment racks. On the de Havilland Trident, for instance, service panels, roof linings, hat racks and bulkheads are all in Mallite British Replin Ltd, 2 South Audley Street, London Wl, supply their furnishing fabric to a number of well-known makers of aircraft seating, to aircraft manufacturers, and to various airport authorities. A wide range of weaves and colours is available, and it is the manufacturers' claim that adequate durability is retained even in the lightest fabrics.
