Non-club flying is to continue at Denham, according to Mrs J. Bickerton, managing director of Bickerton's Aerodromes Ltd, owners of the aerodrome. BGA Annual Meeting The British Gliding Association has chosen a new location for its annual general meeting this year. It will be held, together with meetings of associate club members; private owners and groups; secretaries, treasurers and managers and the instructors' conference, at the Middlesex Yeomanry Drill Hall, Duke of York's Headquarters, King's Road, Chelsea, on Saturday, March 10. The association's annual ball will be held at Londonderry House, from 8.30 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday, March 9. Tickets, costing 25s, are available from the BGA at Londonderry House, 19 Park Lane, London Wl and from member-clubs. Annual gliding awards will be presented at the ball. Progress at Barton Lancashire Aero Club list the following five developments as "milestones" in the club's progress at Barton during 1961: (1) the introduction of three new radio-equipped Piper Colts, (2) equipping of two of the club's Austers with radio, (3) addi tion of two full-time flying instructors to the staff, (4) obtaining operational control of the aerodrome and facilities in the control tower, and (5) increasing the number of hours flown during the year by approximately 50 per cent for an increase in the club fleet of only one aircraft. Rogers Appointed Piaggio Dealer W. H. and J. Rogers (Aviation) of Cranfield Aerodrome, Bedford, have been appointed sales representatives for Piaggio by McAlpine Aviation of Luton, Piaggio distributors for the UK and Eire. The Rogers organization Fuselage exhortation on this Piper Colt refers primarily to the aircraft's registration. Operated by British Executive Air Services, of Oxford, the machine is pictured on a recent visit to Shoreham Sf c"^feL^ GO 1,-- "fM is also a regional Cessna agent, and its managing director, Mr Neville Rogers, was largely responsible for forming the Bedfordshire Air Centre, based at the College of Aeronautics aerodrome at Cranfield. Women Pilots' Awards The British Women Pilots Association is inviting nominations for the award of the Jean Lennox Bird Trophy and Brabazon Cup for 1961. Consistently good flying or a "note worthy performance" in aviation is the criterion for the award of the Trophy, while the Cup will go to a woman pilot who has achieved one "particularly outstanding performance" during the year. Nominations should be addressed to Mrs M. Harriott, 41 Euston Road, West Croydon, Surrey. Gliding in Aden A Slingsby Swallow and a Tandem Tutor trainer have been delivered to the recently formed Aden Services Gliding and Soaring Club, with three further gliders on order, following a £3,000 grant from the Nuffield Trust. The club is affiliated to the RAF Gliding and Soaring Association. Compulsory Radio in the USA Pilots flying within five miles or 2,000ft of airports with government-operated control towers in the US must now have two-way communications radio. The new rule covers 475 of the 6,900 airports in the US. Exemptions whereby non-radio aircraft can operate under control of light signals can be obtained. Radio must be used at other airports if there is a radio- equipped tower or flight service station and if the aircraft is also fitted. Piaggios for Rent Two Piaggio P. 166 executive aircraft, based at Luton Airport, are being offered by McAlpine Aviation for lease to companies requiring a business air-transport service. Annual fees will cover a specified number of flying hours, and the services of a McAlpine pilot. .
