Sir Reginald also presented the first British Aircraft Corporation Portal Awards—three gold medals and one silver, all to Vickers apprentices under a similar agreement in Uruguay, Fabrica Uruguay de Neumaticos Sociedad Anonima (FUNSA) of Montevideo will manufacture Firestone tyres as well as their present brand, Funsa; and in Japan, Fire stone are to produce tyres in co-operation with the Ohtsu Rubber Industry Co in Osaka. Ryan Appointments Two specialists in the foreign marketing of military and com mercial products of the aerospace industry have joined the Ryan Aeronautical. Co. Mr A. W. Abels, formerly export sales manager for General Dynamics/Convair, has been appointed Ryan Aerospace manager of export marketing; and Mr W. C. Keller, formerly assistant to the General Dynamics/ Convair vice-president, military relations, has been appointed assistant to Mr Owen S. Olds, vice-president, electronic sales and engineering, Ryan Electronics. Following the opening by G.M. Power Plant Co Ltd, Richmond Road, Ipswich, Suffolk, of a showroom with what is des cribed as "the largest range of generators and engines on display in the world," the company have embarked on a new sales policy for 1962 "aimed at creating an awareness in the aircraft industry of the equipment that is available." G.M. Power Plant are distributors in the UK, Holland, Portugal and Scandinavia for Onan & Sons Inc of Minneapolis, USA, for many years one of the leading manufacturers of electrical generating sets. "Measurement and Control," a new Iliffe journal devoted to the application of con trol equipment in industry, concentrates on practical uses of automatic control tech niques and presents studies of typical installations. The editor-in-chief is P. J. Farmer, AFRAes, well known as the editor of Data Processing, and the editor is T. E. Ivall, formerly assistant editor of Wireless World and author of a book on electronic computers. Measurement and Control is published at 5s (annual subscription £3, including postage) by Iliffe Production Publications Ltd, Dorset House, Stamford Street, London SE1. A monthly, it appears on the last Saturday of the preceding month. year for the overhaul of Pratt and Whitney piston engines—Scottish Air Engine Ser vices Ltd—has doubled previous output. The report concludes that 1962 "promises IO be a prosperous and stable year for Scottish Aviation Ltd."' Beagle at Christchurch? Negotiations are in train for the factory and airfield at Christ- church, Hants, which are being given up by de Havilland Aircraft this summer, to be Mr D. J. Saunders, BSc(Eng), AFRAeS, assistant chief designer (special products), and Dr L Ainsworth BSc (Hons Physics), PhD, research manager (plastics), whose appointments to these Bristol Aerojet Ltd posts were announced last week taken over by Beagle to enable them to expand their production. Factory and air field are owned by the MoA, whose accept ance of Beagle's application is subject to "the conclusion of satisfactory arrangements on the terms and scope of the lease." Marconi Instruments Posts Two appoint ments have been announced by Marconi Instruments Ltd, St Albans. Mr F. G. Cook relinquishes the post of commercial manager in order to undertake special duties for the managing director; he is succeeded as commercial manager by- Mr R. Chaffey. Mr Cook, who joined Marconi in 1936, has been commercial manager since 1954. Mr Chaffey, who in 1954 was seconded to the Canadian Marconi Co as head of that company's instrumenta tion sales department, returned to the UK in 1958 to become export manager and was made deputy commercial manager last October. Change of Name to the Barden Corporation (UK) Ltd was announced recently by E.M.O. Instrumentation Ltd of Western Road. Bracknell, Berks. E.M.O. have for many years been one of the foremost manufacturers of high precision bearings in the UK. and the Barden Corporation, of Danbury, Connecticut, are the principal manufacturers of high precision bearings in America. The change of name has been effected to show the identity of interests now established between the two companies. Mr Charles G. Irving, who has been appointed a director of Dowty Group Services Ltd. His responsibilities as director of public relations will include those which he has hitherto undertaken as head of group public relations South African Move Hawker de Havilland (Pty) Ltd have transferred their head office from Johannesburg city, and their technical and stores departments from Baragwanath Aerodrome, to Brush House, Third Street, Booysens Reserve, Johannes burg. Brush House, which before this move housed the industrial and commercial divisions of the Hawker Siddeley group, has now become headquarters for all the group's activities in South Africa. Barag wanath Aerodrome has been the home of de Havillands in Africa for over 30 years. Firestone Agreements Arrangements have been completed for the manufacture of Firestone tyres in*three additional factories, in "Norway, Uruguay and Japan. A techni cal assistance agreement has been signed with Aktiesalskabet Askim Gummivarefabrik in Askim. Norway, whereby the home com pany will continue to make their Viking tyres and will also manufacture Firestone;
