FLIGHT International, 12 April 1962 THE UK CARRIERS... Trans European Airways started operations from Swansea in May 1959 with two Rapides, transferring to Coventry in May 1960 and to Gatwick in 1961, from where Constellation operations began. Trans-European concen trates on long-haul passenger and freight charters, and does a good deal of flying to and from Berlin on behalf of local travel agents and students' organizations. A large City group has recently taken a substantial financial interest in the company. Head Office: 81 Piccadilly, London Wl. Executives: E. D. Kayton, managing director; Capt A. C. Fleet: two Dove, one Riley 65., Westpoint Aviation Ltd was formed in 1961 as a charter operator based at Exeter Airport. On May 7 Westpoint will begin a daily DC-3 service between London (Gatwick) and Exeter. Head Office: Longpark, Newton Road, Torquay. Executives: S. H. J. Mann, managing director; 549 J. S. Mann, general manager; D. R. Mann, chief pilot. Fleet: two DC-3. World Wide Aviation Ltd, not to be confused with operators at Burbank and Dorval with similar names, is a British independent formed in July, 1960. Operations, mainly long-range charters, started in December of that year and a DC-4 was leased to Sabena in January, 1961 for United Nations charter work in the Congo. World Wide's fleet is to be supple mented by two more aircraft, probably DC-6s or DC-6Bs. The operations and engineering base is at Gatwick. Head Office: Prince Consort Drive, Ascot, Berks. The World's Airlines A COMPREHENSIVE DIRECTORY TO OVER 600 OPERATORS Aaxico Airlines Inc took its present name on December 31, 1956, having previously worked as the American Air Export & Import Co. Aaxico was an all-cargo carrier and used to fly scheduled services between New York, Atlanta, Birmingham and New Orleans, but regular certificated services were suspended in the summer of 1959. Since then, Aaxico has been engaged primarily in military contract work and aircraft leasing. Head Office: Miami, Florida, USA. Executives: Howard J. Korth, president; E. P. Fleet: nine DC-6A, 30 C-46F. AB Lapplandsflyg is the largest bush operator in Sweden, and undertakes a variety of charter services. Head Office: Porjus, Sweden. Fleet: two Norseman, two Seabee, two Bell 47G-2, one Agusta-Bell 47J. Adastra Airways (Pty) Ltd operates air survey and photographic services in Australia. Head Office: 39-45 Vickers Av, Mascot, Sydney, NSW. Executives: L. B. Pares, general manager; T. J. Gurr, sales manager; J. Wood, secretary. Employees: 130. Fleet: three Anson, three L.14, two DC-3, one PBY Catalina. Aden Airways Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of BOAC, operates international routes ranging to Cairo in the north, Bahrein in the east, Nairobi in the south, and Khartoum in the west. Additionally, they operate regional services to Somalia and a network of domestic services within the protectorate of Aden, including Caravan Class services. The com pany was incorporated on March 1, 1959, and became autonomous under its own board of directors on October 1 of the same year. Services between Nairobi and Aden are now operated in pool with EAAC. Head Office: Khormaksar, Aden. Executives: D. F. Classey, general manager; Capt W. Burman, chief pilot and operations supt; G. G. Employees: 475. Fleet: three Argonaut, seven DC-3. On order: three Avro 748 Series 2 (1962). Admiral Air Service Inc, also known as Quaker City Airways Inc, is a US intra-state and contract carrier. It is not certain if this carrier is still operating. Fleet: three DC-3. Adria Airways, or Adria Aviopromet, is a new Jugoslav carrier formed in May 1961, It will operate ex-KLM DC-6Bs this summer from Zagreb to London on tours arranged by the Anglo-Jugoslav Travel Service Ltd. Adria is a state-owned carrier believed to be quite separate from Jugoslovenski Aerotrans-port (jAT), and it concentrates entirely on passenger and freight charter work. Head Office: Ljubljana, Jugoslavia. Executive: M. Zlatanar, general manager. Fleet: four DC-6B. Aer Lingus began operations in 1936 with a D.H.84, which was used on the Dublin-Bristol route. The company now operates a fleet of Viscounts, Friendships and DC-3s on routes linking Ireland with Britain, Holland, Belgium, France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal and Denmark. BEA holds three per cent of the shares of Aer Lingus, Aer Rianta holding the remainder. BEA co-oper ates with the company on certain routes between the United Kingdom and Ireland, and Aerlinte Boeing 720s are used on some services from Dublin to Shannon and London. Aer Lingus services now connect Cork to Dublin, Bristol, Cardiff, London and Paris. Head Office: 43 Upper O'Connell Street, Dublin, Republic of Ireland. Executives: J. F. Aerlinte Eireann—Irish International Airlines —a sister company of Aer Lingus, was incor porated in 1947 to operate a transatlantic air service between Ireland and the United States. The original plans were shelved but the project was re-activated in April 1958 when the com pany opened a transatlantic service from Dublin via Shannon to New York. The service was later extended to Boston. At present all the shares are held by Aer Rianta and the ser vices are closely integrated with Aer Lingus. Aerlinte operates five Boeing 720-048 jet services a week from Dublin to New York via Shannon and Boston, and two more calling at Boston. Mixta operates a network of services radiating from Resistencia to six other towns within a distance of 200 miles. Head Office: Santa Maria de Oro 145, Resistencia, Chaco, Argentina. Fleet: two Beaver. Aero Contractors Co of Nigeria Ltd is a subsidiary of Schreiner Aero Contractors NV which commenced charter operations in Nigeria at the end of 1959 with Apaches. In addition to charter work, a scheduled service network to 16 centres, mostly in northern Nigeria, is operated. Head Office: 30, Marina, Lagos, Nigeria. Fleet: three Apache, two Aztec, one Dornier Do 28. Aero-Nord Sweden AB operates scheduled newspaper and limited passenger services within Sweden. Ambulance and aerial survey work is also undertaken. No recent news of this carrier is available. Head Office: Stockholm, Sweden. Executives: P. O. Homstrom, managing director. Fleet: one Aero Commander. Aero O/Y—see Finnair. Aero Safari SA is a new Mexican carrier formed to operate feeder and taxi services in the Quintana Roo area using Lockheed LAS A 60 Santa Maria light transports. Aero-Taxi is a Dutch charter operator that began operations from Rotterdam last year. A DC-3 may be added to the fleet. Head Office: Rotterdam, Holland. Fleet: One Dornier Do 28, Saab Safirs. Aero Taxi SA was formed in 1953 and is one of the oldest Peruvian taxi and charter operators. Aero Taxi's fleet is based in the jungle at San Ramon, north-east of Lima, and the company does a great deal of freight carrying to isolated settlements in the Peruvian jungle region. A network of seven HF radio stations is also operated. Head Office: Lima, Peru. Fleet: two Cessna UC-78, one Cessna 180.
