West Indian Operations THREE SHACKLETONS of 204 Sqn arrived back at their Northern Ireland base, Ballykelly, recently after spending just over five week's in the West Indies, during which they com pleted ten sorties from Belize, Jamaica, to British Honduras and 22 from Jamaica to British Guiana. In a report on these opera tions the squadron commander, Wg Cdr A. Roe, said that each sortie took up to 21hr from the start of loading operations to de-briefing after the return trip. "In all," he said, "we completed some 228hr transit time and 371 operational hours. Our total payload was 273,6661b, made up of ordnance —34,666; RASC (mainly food)—205,0001b; miscellaneous items (including REME and medical stores)—34,0001b." In addition, 175 passengers—mostly military experts and including medical personnel—were flown from Jamaica to British Guiana. Congratulating the RNZAF A MESSAGE WAS SENT by the Air Minister, Mr Julian Amery, to the New Zealand Minister of Defence on March 30 to mark the silver jubilee of the RNZAF. It read: "We cherish the close links that have been forged between our two air forces during the past quarter of a century." CAS on Tour VISITING AMERICA AND THE FAR EAST, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Thomas Pike, is to address the RCAF Staff College in Toronto today (April 12), having crossed the Atlantic by Comet of Transport Command. Tomorrow Sir Thomas goes to Washington and thence to Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, Ala, where next Monday he is addressing the United States War College. The CAS is to visit Christmas Island on April 19 and after Easter goes on to Hong Kong (April 26) and from there to Singapore via the Solomon Islands, Port Moresby and North Borneo. On his way back from the Far East Sir Thomas is visiting Gan, the Indian Ocean staging post. He returns to London on May 12. German Visitor GENERAL JOSEF KAMMHUBER, Inspector of the Federal German Air Force, visited the United Kingdom from April 2 to 4 at the invitation of the Chief of the Air Staff, AVM S. R. C. Nelson, ORE, MD, MCP&S, who is to be Director-General of RAF Medical Services, with the acting rank of air marshal, from September 4 in succession to Air Marshal Sir Patrick Lee Potter, who is retiring from the Service Crew of the 101 Sqn Vulcan for whose London - Aden flight on March 30 (World News, last week) a record is being claimed. Day (crew chief) FAA Officers' Association FORMED FIVE YEARS AGO, as a result of the disbandment of the RNVR Air Branch. the Fleet Air Arm Officers' Association now has a membership of 650. Many functions are held throughout the year, to help keep alive the esprit de corps which exists among Naval aviators, and the association would be glad to hear from those interested in joining. Membership is open to officers who hold or have held commissions in the Royal Navy, RNVR. RNR or RNAS, though officers of any Service who have been connected with or have shown particular interest in the work of the FAA are eligible for membership.
