R. Dunlap CBE, CD. At present Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations at SHAPE, Air Marshal Dunlap is 54. In his new post he will succeed Air Marshal Hugh Campbell from September 15. Near East Changes THERE ARE TO BE changes of status and title for the RAF commander in Cyprus from July 10. On that date, Air Marshal Sir Denis H. F. Barnett, KCB, CBE, DFC, MA, is to become AOC-in-C Near East and Administrator of the Sovereign Base Areas Akrotiri and Dhakelia; and he will also, in his capacity as AOC-in-C, command all British forces in Cyprus, with the title Commander, British Forces, Cyprus. Sir Denis, who is a New Zealander, was formerly AOC-in-C Transport Command. His predecessor in Cyprus, as AOC-in-C Near East Air Force, Air Marshal Sir William L. M. MacDonald, KCB, CBE, DFC, A handshake and presentation from the RAF for the RNZAF on its 25th birthday. Recipient is AVM M. F. Calder, Chief of Air Staff, and making the presentation—a silver cigarette box—is Gp Copt J- H, L Blount, Air Adviser to the British High Commissioner. In the background is the HZ Minister of Defence, Mr Dean Eyre is to be Air Secretary from October 22. He succeeds Air Chief Marshal Sir Theodore McEvoy, KCB, CBE, ADC, who is retiring from the Service. Exercise "Air Cobra" IN THE RECENT SEATO tactical air exercise "Air Cobra," mounted from Korat air base in Northern Thailand, more than 4,000 men of the ground and air forces of Australia, the United States, Thailand, Britain and France took part. The RAAF contributed Sabres, Canberras and Hercules transports, plus nearly 400 supporting personnel. Glasgow Occasion AT GLASGOW UAS ANNUAL DINNER OH April 24 the squadron's newly acquired silver, formerly belonging to 602 (City of Glasgow) Sqn, Royal Auxiliary Air Force, was on view for the first time. It included a kanga roo hammer and gavel which had been presented to 602 by the City of Sydney Sqn. One of the principal guests was Air Cdre A. V. R. (Sandy) Johnstone, who com manded 602 during the Battle of Britain. The occasion saw the presentation of a new trophy, the Quaich, for the best all-rounder: this went to Pit Off R. C. G. Brodie. The Weir (best all-round performance by a first-year cadet) and Aerobatic Trophies went to Cdt Pits J. Jamieson and D. Cars- well respectively. Sixth "Royal Flush" THREE AIR FORCES, the Royal Danish, Royal Norwegian and Federal German, are this year participating for the first time in the annual AAFCE reconnaissance competition, "Royal Flush." Based at Ramstein, West Germany, with the USAF as hosts, this year's event—the sixth to be held—takes place next week, from May 14 to 16. As on previous occasions, the contest is between the 2nd Allied Tactical Air Force (RAF Germany, RNAF, Belgian Air Force and RNoAF) and 4th ATAF (USAF, French, German and Danish Air Forces). Consider able team effort is involved, with effective co-operation between aircrew, groundcrew and photographic staff the key to success. 754 FLIGHT International, 10 May 1962 Commemorating 50 Years SOME SIX HUNDRED VETERANS of the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Naval Air Service are attending next Saturday's reception at Lancaster House, given jointly by the Boa;d of Admiralty and the Air Council, which marks the start of this year's commemora tion of 50 years' military aviation in the United Kingdom. They are being welcomed by the hosts, the First Lord of the Admiral ty, Lord Carrington, the Secretary of State for Air, Mr Julian Amery, the First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Caspar John, and the Chief of the Air Staff, Marshal of the RAF Sir Thomas Pike. Saturday evening's reception is being followed on Sunday by wreath-laying at the Cenotaph in Whitehall and a service in St Clement Danes. Gp Capt F. L Dodd, Coningsby station com mander, after bringing in the first Avro Vulcan B.2 from Woodford for IX Sqn. Wg Cdr K. Stevens, the squadron CO, flew as co pilot. With the group captain is Fg Off D. Hopton, an engineering officer, who in 1955 was one of the first crew chiefs on Vulcans FOUR MARSHALS OF THE RAF—Lord Portal, Loid Newall, Sir Dermot Boyle and Sir John Salmond—attended the seventh Royal Air Force anniversary concert, held in the Royal Festival Hall on April 26. TOMORROW'S (MAY 11) ANNUAL DINNER of the Pathfinder Association is being held at RAF Wyton, headquarters of the PFF during the war, at the invitation of the AOC-in-C Bomber Command, Air Marshal Sir Kenneth Cross. TWO BROTHERS in the RAF at Aden, Fit Lts David and Frank Keiller, help in. different spheres to save the lives of Arab soldiers and their families. David is a Twin Pioneer pilot with 78 Sqn, which has casualty evacuation as one of its duties; Frank is a surgeon at the RAF hospital for Arab soldiers of the Federal Regular Army. BIGGER AWARDS are being made to RAF inventors whose ideas become adopted more widely than in their own commands. 0"e of the first beneficiaries was Sgt P.
