782 FLIGHT International, 17 May 1962 BOMBER COMMAND QUICK REACTION TIME to hostile forces is the keynote of Bomber Command training, and to implement the words of its motto the Command has a force of Vulcans, Victors and Valiants and several squadrons of Thor intermediate-range missiles. The aircraft can carry either ortho dox or nuclear bombs, their "scramble" time has been re duced to well under three minutes and their range has been in creased by in-flight refuelling, as shown by recent non-stop flights to Aden and Australia. Blue Steel and Skyboii, the stand-off bomb and air-launched ballistic missile which are to be introduced with the Mk 2 Vulcans and Victors, will further increase the Command's offen sive capability. Apart from opera tional commitments, Bomber Command is responsible for photographic reconnaissance squadrons, V-bomber and Can berra operational conversion units and a bombing school. Victor scramble at Cottesmore Vulcan gets airborne at Scampton; and above, ground support for the V-force—technicians and police guard •P *«^
