This type of product is additional w the company's normal work of develop ing daylight colour-smoke compounds for emergency applications. GE Foamed Aluminium According to Mr R. R. Wallace, of the Missile and Space Vehicle Department of US General Electric, a new type of foamed aluminium "has for four days withstood more than twice the temperature needed to melt the solid metal." In fact, a temperature of 2,700CF was sus tained without damage for lOOhr. The process described by Mr Wallace is said to be "unique in the degree of accuracy with which the density . . . can be controlled." It also allows variable permeability—to liquids or gases—to be achieved when desired. Density can be varied between 3.0 and 50 per cent of the theoretical solid density, and pore size may be selected between 0.25mm and 10mm. Company News Hunting Co-ordination The Hunting Group announces the formation of a new company, Hunting Light Industries Ltd, with an authorized capital of £1,300,000. The object is to expand and co-ordinate the group's activities in the engineering, plastics and allied fields, which in the past have been run by the individual companies concerned; these now become subsidiaries of Hunting Light Industries Ltd. Hunting Light Industries Ltd, which will have a labour force in the United Kingdom of some 2,500 employees, will be a subsid iary of Hunting Aviation Management Ltd, the holding company, which also controls the international Hunting Survey Group as well as holding substantial but minority interests in other branches of aviation. The board of the new company consists of Mr C. P. M. Hunting, chairman; Mr L. C. Hunting, vice-chairman; Sir Percy Hunting; Mr J. L. Smith, managing director; Mr R. R. S. Cook (alternate Mr R. E. Treacher); Mr R. P. Pedley, technical; Mr F. C. Cooke, production; Mr E. H. Baker, secretary. Airtech Works Manager Mr C. E. Black- well, AMIME, has been made works manager of Airtech Ltd. He was formerly with M.L. Aviation, becoming works manager in 1955, and served his engineering appren ticeship with the Bristol Aeroplane Co in the engine development division. Garrett International Change Mr W. Scott McGilvray Jr has been appointed general manager of Garrett International SA, a subsidiary of the Garrett Corporation in Geneva. He succeeds Mr B. S. Clark, who has resigned. Mr McGilvray has for the past 22 years been associated with Lockheed Corporation, his last post being vice-presi dent of Lockheed International and execu tive assistant to the group vice-president of aircraft divisions. As general manager of Garrett International, he will be responsible for development of the corporation's interests in Europe, Middle East and Africa. New BS Division A new small engines sales division, to market the small gas turbines produced by the recently acquired de Havilland and Blackburn engine com panies, has been formed by Bristol Siddeley Engines Ltd. Sales manager of the new division is to be Gp Capt H. J. Wilson, CBE, AFC, AFRAes, RAF (Ret), formerly sales Gp Capt H. J. Wilson director, Blackburn Engines Ltd; he will be based at the BS central office at Mercury House, Knightsbridge, London. Gp Capt Wilson, who was Commandant of the Empire Test Pilots' School from 1945 to 1947, set up a world speed record (60~ m.p.h.) in a Gloster Meteor in 1945. Members of No 21 course of the Empire Test Pilots' School during a recent tour of the Birmingham works of Lucas Cas Turbine Equipment Ltd, following visits to Rolls-Royce at Nottingham and Whitworth Gloster Aircraft at Baginton and Bitteswell on the two preceding days.
