846 FLIGHT International, 31 May 1962 WORLD E W S Hunters to Thailand Six Hunters of 20 Sqn left their base at Tengah on Singapore Island last Friday for Thailand. They were being followed by six more Hunters and together the aircraft will form part of the RAF unit based at Chieng Mai in northern Thailand, under SEATO operational control in the event of further Communist penetration in Laos. A Can berra and Hastings of the RAF, and Bristol Freighters of the RNZAF, also left for Thailand. News From Dassault Further details are available of ihe proposed Dassault Mystere 20 executive aircraft. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney JT12A-8 turbojets, each rated at 3,3001b and equipped with SNECMA reversers, it will have a range of 1,120 miles (1,555 miles with external tanks), cruising at 445kt at 40,000ft. Span and length are respect ively 44ft 2in and 51ft 5in; the entrance door to the eight-seat interior forms a stairway. Dassault also announce that "three of the best US Air Force test pilots" have completed a full evaluation of the Mirage III. A production IIIC was tested in every configuration during simulated missions from concrete and dirt runways. Live firing tests were made with all weapons. The team also evaluated a tandem-seat IIIB, and were most impressed by both types. Beechcraft Turboprop Executive Due to fly early in 1964, with deliveries of FAA-certificated production models scheduled for the following year, is a new fully pressurized twin-turboprop Beech- craft. The engines currently under con sideration are Turbomeca Bastans of 900 s.h.p. each, which would give an econ omical cruising speed well over 300 m.p.h. An eight-seater (crew of two and six passengers), the aircraft will weigh under 12,5001b. Maximum range will exceed 1,500 miles, including allowances for take off and climb. With additional fuel a range of over 1,800 miles could be achieved. Illustrations appear below. The Rateau Claim Later this year a High Court action may be heard in which the Societe Rateau, of Courbevoie, and Rene Anxionnaz, its vice-president direiiteur-gBneral, jointly sue Rolls-Royce Ltd for alleged infringement of patents relating to aircraft gas turbines. Rateau are known to have filed patents covering a wide range of engine configur ations. Rolls-Royce have filed a defence and counter-claim. Danish Light Aircraft Fair More than 150 visiting aircraft are expec ted at the International Light Aircraft Fair being held at Skovlunde airfield, Copen hagen, from tomorrow (June 1) to June 11. There will be displays by the Royal Danish Air Force commemorating their 50th anniversary, and the 1906 aircraft belonging to Ellehammer will be on view. MEA Comet 4C for Kuwait Last week BOAC Associated Companies confirmed that Kuwait Airways, for which BOAC undertake management and oper ational responsibility, are to charter a Comet 4C from MEA. Operations are due to begin on July 1 with aircraft crewed and maintained by Middle East Airlines in Sir Arnold Hall is seen receiving the Cold Medal of the Royal Aeronautical Society for his outstanding achievements in aeronautics. Pre senting the medal, on the occasion of the Fiftieth Wilbur Wright Memorial Lecture in London on May 24, is the new President of the Society, Mr B. S. Shenstone (left) Kuwait Airways colours on the routes. It is understood that, though BOAC have full technical responsibility for Kuwait Airways' operations, none of the corpor ation's Comet 4s could be spared for Kuwait Airways, and this has led to the arrangement with MEA. Aden Airways Cancel 748s Aden Airways' surprise cancellation of their three Avro 748 Series 2s is probably due to a combination of two factors: (1) These aircraft were for delivery in the sum mer of 1962, and though a prototype Series 2 (actually modified Series 1) has Beech Turboprop Executive Artist's impression and three-view drawing of the new Beech referred to above. Powerplant may be two Turbomeca Bastans
