Below, chatting with Mrs A, W. Bedford beside the P.I 127 is Sir Sydney Camm on conventional rear-mounting pylons, has been designed to house six people in a com fortable cabin, with the option of a toilet. Full airline electronics, with weather radar, are in the nose; and the main fuel tankage, supplemented by the standard 326 tip- tanks, is behind the cabin. The rear fuselage is swept up to raise the tail surfaces clear of the jet efflux. Price is a determining factor in the jet executive market and Macchi hope to sell the 330 for $250,000- 5300,000—little more than the price of a Queen Air. Gross weight is 9,8001b and a typical flight profile gives a distance of 1,100 n.m. covered in 3hr 21min, with reserve remain ing. Range is slightly less than that of the SAAC 23 or Piaggio Douglas PD.808. Maximum continuous cruising TAS at 30,000ft is 364kt, and maximum recom mended cruising TAS 352kt. FAA take-off field length in i.s.a. at sea level is 3,950ft, initial climb l,450ft/min and single-engined second-segment climb 416ft/min. The s.f.c. of the Aubisque at 80 per cent power is 0.81b/lb/hr, that for sea-level static full- power conditions being 0.6. The Twin-Astazou 328 has been under consideration sinGe 1958. In its luxury version it is designed for four passengers and two crew, with segregated flight deck, and has a gross weight of 7,7151b. Cruising sneed at 20,000ft is 262kt and best range, with reserves, is 1,260 n.m. FAA take-off and landing field length is 2,100ft, initial climb 3,100ft/min, and time to 20,000ft 12min. Eight-seat layout and toilet can be accommodated and certain assemblies are in common with those of the 326 and 330. Next Week's Issue —of "Flight International,'" dated June 28, will be an enlarged special number con taining, in addition to regular features, a comprehensive and fully illustrated review of engines—turbojet, turbofan, turboprop, rocket and piston—-currently in production, or projected, in all manufacturing countries. Rolls-Royce Civil Projects Emphasizing that the projects on which Rolls-Royce are engaged " are vital to the success of all the major British transport aircraft at present under construction" the chairman, Lord Kindersley, says in his annual report that shareholders are entitled to look forward to the time when their company will derive some significant bene fit from the Government's 1960 policy of providing increased support for promising civil aircraft projects and aero-engines. In a period of declining orders from the Government, Rolls-Royce exports had risen from £15.7m in 1955 to £55.2m last year. "Shareholders will be interested to Air-support Participant fn the recent land-air warfare demonstration on Salisbury Plain ("Flight International," June 14) was the Avro 748, here seen passing low and fast in front of the spectators' stands learn," says Lord Kindersley, "that approxi mately £15m has become payable to the British Government from the proceeds of our sales to other customers, roughly attributable in equal parts to civil and military engines. In terms of hard cash, the sums already payable exceed the cost to the Exchequer of their contribution to purely civil projects during the same period." Austrian Magister Order A new Austrian order has been placed for Fouga CM.170 Magisters, powered by Turbomeca Marbore lis. It will bring to 18 the number of this type in Austrian Air Force service. Total of Magisters ordered to date, by France and eight other countries, is 744. Hovercraft Terminal Change British United Airways have asked Wallasey (Cheshire) County Borough Coun cil for permission to operate their Dee Estuary Hovercraft service between Rhyl and Wallasey instead of between Rhyl and Hoylake. The change is contemplated because, despite co-operation from the Hoylake authorities, a few residents there have made objections which BUA are unwilling to ignore. CSE Expansion CSE Aviation Ltd of Kidlington and Biggin Hill, sole concessionaires of Piper aircraft in the United Kingdom and Eire, have had their franchise extended to cover the Netherlands and Belgium. Piper sales in Britain over the past three years, the company state, total 213 aircraft, equivalent to 50 per cent of UK executive sales.
