^^MsmmU^iH^Mmmiam Fuel control for the YC.10 The largest aircraft ever to go into production in Europe, the 135-ton Vickers VC 10-on order for British Overseas Airways Corporation- carries just under 18,000 gallons of fuel. Its accurate control and measurement has been entrusted to SMITHS Aviation Division who are supplying their Type 4 Contents Gauging Equ.pment for all a crafTordered to date. Also supplied for the VC.10 is a range of Smiths manometric instruments including Prec.s,on Al .meter Airspeed Indicator with VNO pointer, Machmeter and Vert.cal Speed indicator as well as engine instruments and a specially designed rear view periscope. Vickers choice bears witness to Smiths leadership in instrumentation and systems engineering for aviation s future. The SMITHS Type 4 gauging system installed in the VC.10 provides accurate indication of the actual fuel contents of all seven tanks, irrespective of variations in level due to changes in flight attitude, and is self-compensating over a given range of fuels. A special feature is the fuel load control panel located in the underside of the port wing. This gives the fuelling crew rapid and precise control from one point of the entire fuelling operation, designed to he completed in just over iy minutes. N
