112 NDUSTRY International... Products In-flight Vibration Measurement Accur ate in-flight vibration measurement, from —65 F to 4- 350°F, under space conditions, is claimed with the new Model 2235C charge accelerometer produced by End- evco Corporation, 801 South Arroyo Parkway, Pasadena, Cal. This piezoelectric transducer is hermetically sealed and said to be "particularly suited to the rugged environmental requirements of missile instrumentation." It utilizes the Endevco "single-ended compression" design which provides complete physical separation of the active elements from the accelerometer case and wall, thus providing the greatest possible insensitivity to case distortion effects. Part of one of the two four-wheel bogie assem blies forming the main undercarriage of the Vickers VCIO. The part-assembly on the right reveals one of the eight Dunlop plate brakes. All eight wheels of the main undercarriage are by Dunlop, as are the tubeless tyres and Maxaret anti-skid units Universal Bomb Rack A contract worth approximately $650,000 has been awarded to Rocket Power lnc of Mesa, Arizona, for a new type of universal bomb rack for use on supersonic military aircraft. The rack has been designed and developed by the company and 368 are to be supplied under the contract, awarded by the USAF Aero space Systems Division. Designated MAU- 12/A. it can accommodate both nuclear and conventional weapons. A lightweight device, only 32in long, it will support a 5,0001b weight. One of its features is a special safety lock which it is said makes it impossible for a bomb to be released accidentally Lox Information British Oxygen Aviation Services (the British Oxygen Co Ltd) have for some time been investigating the avail ability of liquid oxygen throughout the world, with the aim of assisting airlines and other civil operators proposing to instal lox breathing equipment in their aircraft, and also those who may be considering the economics of using lox bulk storage at their main bases for conversion to gaseous oxygen as required. BOAS have completed a study of over seas lox producing plants owned and operated by the British Oxygen group of FLIGHT International, 19 July 1962 companies, and the appropriate ground support equipment has been put into pro duction; but information is still lacking on the supply position at or near major airports in certain parts of the world. BOAS would therefore be grateful if companies producing liquid oxygen would provide the following information: names of airports they are supplying; names of airports where they are in a position to supply lox to bulk storage tanks; and purity of the lox produced. This information should be sent to British Oxygen Information Services, Pin nacles Works, Elizabeth Way, Harlow. Essex, England. Company News Air BP in Liberia Operations by Air BP, the international aviation fuelling service, have now been extended to Liberia. Last month the company inaugurated a new depot at Robertsfield. Monrovia's airport. It will supply turbine kerosine for SAS, KLM and Air Liban aircraft. Sperry Appointment Mr M. L. Jofeh, OBE, AMIEE, has been appointed deputy managing director of Sperry Gyroscope Co Ltd. In addition to his new duties, Mr Jofeh will continue as general manager-opera tions, a post he has held since last year and in which he is responsible for the company's six product groups (aero; marine; guided weapons; gunnery fire control, radar, nucleonics; industrial components and systems; and twin gyro platforms). Mr Jofeh joined Sperry in 1947 and has been a member of the board since early I960. Conway Engine Testing A contract for conversion of an existing Heenan & Froude test plant at Treforest, South Wales, from Proteus to Conway engine testing was recently signed in London between BOAC and the company. Preliminary work on the project has already started and the con verted cell will be ready for use by the end of next year. Initially it will test Conway 540s and 550s, developing thrusts of up to 21.000 and 23,0001b; but the plant will be capable of dealing with engines developing twice this amount of thrust. He began to build up the Plessey company from 1920, when he teamed up with Mr W. O. Heyne and they received a contract to make crystal sets for Marconi.
