FLIGHT International, 26 July 1962 17 Guarding the skies of India Soon the skies over India will be guarded by the HF 24—the first Indian-designed supersonic fighter air craft. Two Bristol Siddeley Orpheus engines give the HF 24 a high degree of manoeuvrability and a considerable operational range. The manufacture of the Orpheus 703 engines for the HF 24 will soon be undertaken in India by Hindustan Aircraft Limited, who are already successfully producing the Mark 701 Orpheus which powers the Gnat fighter. The Bristol Siddeley Orpheus is the most advanced medium-thrust lightweight turbojet in production in the world. The latest version has already been bench tested at a thrust of 6,810 lb dry and 8,170 lb with re heat. The Orpheus powers six types of production aircraft and is also built under licence in Germany and Italy. BRISTOL SIDDELEY ENGINES LIMITED AERO-ENGINE DIVISION, PO BOX 3, FILTON.
