He is Nick Pocock, flying the Tiger Club's Stampe SV-4C. The attempts to obtain from the USA parts with which to modify the Cosmic Wind's 85 h.p. Continental engine for inverted flying proved unsuccessful. This machine was to have been flown by Peter Phillips. The third team member, Charles Boddington, was forced to withdraw because of business commitments. Eliminating heats were flown last week, and the championship finals are con tinuing until July 31. Higher Landing Fees The executive committee of the Aerodrome Owners Association has requested the Association's members to discontinue the current landing-fee concessions for private aircraft with effect from August 1. According to the committee, this "is not to be regarded in any way as a sign of discouragement to the users of private and business aircraft." In a letter to AOA members the secretary of the Association, Sqn Ldr A. W. Day, states: "It is considered that in view of the steadily increasing cost of maintaining and operating aerodromes, and of the current low scale of landing fees for light aircraft (6s per 1,0001b calculated to the nearest 1,0001b), aerodrome owners can no longer be expected to receive only 3s or 6s for the acceptance of "private' aircraft." 7,000th Bonanza The delivery of the 7,000th Beechcraft Bonanza, to W. A. Schemmer Limestone Quarry Inc, was announced by Beech Aircraft Corp of Wichita on July 3. In continuous production for 16 years, the Bonanza was first flown on December 22, 1945. and was formally introduced as Beechcraft's first entirely new post war model in 1947. Since that time, the company state, more Bonanzas have been built than any other individual model of executive aircraft. Stapleford Breakfast Patrol Herts and Essex Aero Club are holding a breakfast patrol at Stapleford Tawney Aerodrome on Sunday, August 12, between 9.15 and 9.45 a.m. and 1,000 and 2,000ft. In case of bad weather the event will be postponed until August 19. Irish Fly-in Reliance Aviation is holding a fly-in at Headfort Aerodrome, County Meath, Eire, on August 22, to which all private and club pilots are invited. Twelve aircraft of the Tiger Club are expected to include the event in their summer tour of Ireland. The aerodrome is two miles east-northeast of Kells, County Meath, and Flairavia Club Progress Membership of the Flairavia Flying Club at Biggin Hill is now above 150, and the club fleet includes such varied types as the Piper Caribbean, Bolkow 207, Bolkow 107C. Champion Tri-Traveller and Prentice, with Tiger Moth and Auster aircraft available by special arrangement. Delivery of the club's Bolkow Junior and of a Piper Tri-Pacer is expected soon.
