The officers, including AVM Hughes, who is AOC No 19 Croup, flew in the Smiths DH Dove for a demonstration of the company's Para-Visual Director system Military Aviation Service A new mili tary aviation information service is ap proaching the end of its first year of pub lication, with an imposing list of subscribers from industry and Service organizations. Most of the major aircraft companies throughout the world, in addition to many air forces themselves, now receive the International Air Forces and Military Aircraft Directory, which is compiled and published by Aviation Advisory Services, from Staple- ford Airfield, Essex. This is rather more than a single-volume publication. It is, in fact, a continuous information service on military aviation activities, in the form of two components. The first is a 140-page directory comprising a country-by-country survey of the air forces of 90 nations, giving precise and accurate information on the types and numbers of individual aircraft in service and on order, current organization and strength, missile equipment, bases, HQ, addresses, commanders, procurement plans and so on. The basic directory is kept up-to-date Siebe, Gorman & Co Ltd compressed air breathing apparatus being used during the construction of the VCI0. The two components combine to give "a unique service, with the emphasis on equipment, procurement and budgetary information, which has proved indispensable to any organization concerned in any degree with military aviation activities." Its great advantage is that it is never more than a month out of date, and the directory and newsletter supplement each other to provide a continuous commentary as well as a lasting reference. Because of this, the two components are not normally available separately, although considera tion is given to such provision if required. Apart from the comprehensive analysis of air forces, the directory also contains a rapid-reference list in which every type of military aircraft in service throughout the world is detailed, with an immediate indication in which countries each is in service. Subscription is on an annual basis, and the directory service has been ordered from as far afield as Chile and Japan. The service is confidential and is also selective. Intending subscribers are invited to apply to Aviation Advisory Services at Stapleford -for eligibility and further details.
