FLIGHT International, 30 August 1962 321 mand early last year, has a wing extended in span to 120ft, and despite a substantial increase in weight—which obviously re flects even greater fuel capacity—has a much higher performance as a result of fitting Rolls-Royce Conway engines of 17,250 or 20,6001b-thrust. At low altitudes accessory power is pro vided by a Bristol Siddeley Artouste power pack in the starboard wing root, which also provides air for starting the starboard engines (which are then bled of air to start the port pair). At high altitude a pair of ram-air scoops above the rear fuselage may be opened to drive a turbo- alternator connected to the new paralleled a.c. electric system. A Blue Steel stand off bomb may be carried, and there is no technical reason why the Victor 2 should not also carry Skybolt missiles. Under- wing fuel tanks may be fitted, and on re cent trials B.2 aircraft have also been seen with other externally obvious fittings. Many Victors, of both marks, are serving in primarily a reconnaissance role, using a variety of advanced methods. The Victor is the largest aircraft yet to have made a sonic bang, and it has been described by the C-in-C Bomber Command as "the best medium bomber in the world." H.P.I IS Handley Page Victor B.2
