Avro 748 The first revenue flight of the 748 took place on April 2, when Aerolineas Argentinas, who have ordered nine, introduced the type on the route from Ruenos Aires to Bahia Blanca. The 748 entered service with Skyways on scheduled Coach Air services to points in France on April 17. Last November this company undertook the route-proving tests which led to ARB certification on Decem ber 9. All three of their Series Is have been in service since June. Another British independent, BKS, has five Series Is on order, although the delivery position is not clear owing to the airline's financial difficulties. The Brazil ian Air Force ordered six of the Series 2 version last March. The 748s will replace DC-3s in the special transport group of the Brazilian Air Force, although in military service the aircraft are basically identical to the standard civil airliner. The Series 2 version has the Rolls-Royce Dart 531 of 2,105 e.h.p., compared with the 1,740 e.h.p. of the Dan 514 of the Series I. The Series 2 is intended primarily for " hotter and higher " conditions; apart from the increased power—which raises take-off weight by 2,0001b to 38,8001b— the aircraft is similar to the Series 1. The 748 is being constructed under licence in India for the IAF. A substan tial number of series 2s are in production at IAF Kanpur, and flight tests of the Avro 748 Mk I
