356 FLIGHT International, 30 August 19c NEW ACCESSORIES... Sperry/International Aeradio strip-printer for ATC service anywhere in the world. The company are in full production with twin-gyro platforms for the RAF and NATO, are introducing the well-known SP-3 autopilot (employed in many American executive aircraft and now standard on the Beagle 206) and are the sole British distri butors of the new French CSF radio alti meter Type AM.220H. Marketing re sponsibility for Vickers aircraft hydraulics has now been transferred to Vickers Sperry Rand (197 Knightsbridge, London Wl; Knightsbridge 9641), but Sperry will be pleased to receive enquiries on Stand 108. Teddington Aircraft Controls Ltd, Cefn Coed, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan; Merthyr Tydfil 3261. (Stand 58 and outdoor equip ment Site M) This company makes a significant contribution to all high-per formance British aircraft, and security has been relaxed to permit them to reveal their temperature-control system developed for the BAC TSR2 now being built for the RAF, and the 39 items supplied for each Bristol 188. At Farnborough a working model of the Noelle 60 gas-turbine starter will be on view for the first time in Britain; this French equipment will be found on Site M. Teleflex Products Ltd, Basildon, Essex; Basildon 22861. (Stand 254) The varia tions in length between a fuselage or wing, and that of the control systems running through it—due to the differences in tem perature, loads, and basically the coeffici ents of expansion of the different materials used—has been a worry to designers and operators for many years. Control systems would tighten or slacken even in the course of a short flight. Teleflex have tackled this trouble, and now provide a range of cable tension regulators. These are used through out the Vickers VC10 in all its engine and flight control systems, and they incorporate other features to give minimum friction and safety in case of a cable disconnection. The windscreen wiper of the de Havilland 125 is of the ALCO type, for which Teleflex are the British agents. Their inertia harness for pilots is now a standard fitting in every new civil and military aircraft in this country. These various accessories, to gether with others using remote control for rudder-pedal adjustment, nosewheel steer ing, freight-door locks, and undercarriage free-fall control are to be shown on the Teleflex stand. Tiltman Langley Ltd, Redhill Aerodrome, Redhill, Surrey; Nuffield Ridge 2232. (Stand 72) Tiltman Langley Ltd are for the first time exhibiting their range of air craft components, although some of these are already used in several military and civil aeroplanes. Generally they are concerned with temperature and pressure control. Their new temperature control takes the form of an entirely solid-state polarized differential relay, which they believe to be superior to any mechanical equivalent using either a balanced armature or moving coil. It is virtually immune from shock or accel eration and has a high operational stability over a wide temperature range. Integrated with the control circuit module, for which it was developed, a differentially switched output of 3A inductive at 28V d.c. has been achieved. They have also a new, but established, range of bi-metallic thermal switches avail able at settings from —50 to +650°C, and able to maintain repeatability at head temperatures up to 250°C. Despite their small size, these units are capable of switching differentials of less than 5°C, and are rated at 10A 28V d.c. The disposal of waste water overboard in flight at temperatures below freezing point can now be done by means of a heated drain mast, which has a self-compensating heater element built into it. This equipment is now standard on the Britannias of BO AC and El-Al, on the Handley Page Herald, and on the Vickers VC10. It is under development for other aircraft. Triplex Safety Glass Co Ltd, 1 Albemarle Street, London, Wl; Hyde Park 8171. (Stand 15) A section of the de Havilland Trident cockpit glazed with Triplex gold- film electrically heated windows will be shown at Farnborough, in the form of a working model. The main pilots' window will be free of ice, but the direct-vision window with the power off will be iced up. The Trident, Vickers VC10, Avro 748 and Blackburn Buccaneer all have windscreens which are electrically heated, and are bird and pressure resistant. In addition, that on the Buccaneer is also bullet resistant. The English Electric Lightning has a curved pressure-resistant panel. All these will be seen at Farnborough, and the technical details of how these results are achieved will be dsmonstrated. Westinghouse Brake and Signal Co Ltd, 82 York Way, London Nl; Terminus 6432. (Stand 263) A typical application of Trinistor silicon-controlled rectifiers is the control of the 15 h.p. motor which goven the winching of a Flight Refuelling hosi reel unit. Starting and stopping of the d motor is executed without the need f> heavy-duty mechanical switches, and tl Trinistors also control the strip of indicate lights at two levels of brightness for day < night operation. Westinghouse have coi tinued their development of metal rectilie and diodes, and have produced lightweigh: selenium units to DEF.5245 capable > operation at 85°C. Williamson Manufacturing Co Ltd, Haw thorn Road, London NW10; Willesden 007J. (Stand 223) Last year this compan \ showed a hand-held camera, the F.l 17E, an electrically operated instrument. This year they are introducing the H.H.70, which needs no electrical drive. It is spring- operated and gives twelve shots without rewind; at each shot the film moves on one frame. With interchangeable lenses the H.H.70 weighs 7-81b (about 3.5kg) depending on the lens used. Two lenses, one of 76mm and the other of 305mm, are available, and the shutter speeds are 1/125, 1/250, 1/500, and 1/1000th sec. The film for this camera is 70mm, double-perforated, in a detachable magazine holding 100 exposures. It is, felt that this answers a world-wide need for a lightweight camera suitable for use in small aircraft. Wilmot Breeden Ltd, Amington Roud. Birmingham 25; Acocks Green 3344. (Stand 122) One of the chief aeronautical pro ducts is a variety of hollow blades of aero foil section, including compressor inlet guide vanes and turbine and compressor stator blades. These blades are formed in nickel and chrome alloys in a succession of press operations, followed by brazing or welding in a controlled atmosphere. Wall thickness may be varied from root to tip to suit the imposed stress. Smiths flight controller as fitted to de Havilland Trident
