NAPIER & SON LTD. in their Spray mat informa tion bulletin 1B/S11 say "We consider that having taken into account the aircraft forward speed the out board section of the blade should be protected by a metallic coating. Extensive testing has indicated that the best coating for this purpose is an electroformed Microgram nickel sheath bonded onto the heater mat." RESISTANCE TO EROSION BY WATER Tests on tubular forms show no apparent effect on the surface of the nickel under conditions of a supposed component flying at extremely high speeds through rain of tropical intensity. RESISTANCE TO DAMAGE AND DEFORMATION Tests show propeller edge electroforms to be highly resistant to damage and deformation by dust and stones.
