It is a twin-Astazou light transport freighter and executive project. An unusual feature is the provision of a swing-nose. No further infor mation has been released this year. S.E.210 Caravelle The decision to build the Caravelle was taken in January 1953 after a design competition: a French Government contract was awarded in July 1953 to Sud- Est Aviation (which combined with Ouest-Aviation to become Sud-Aviation in 1957), and the first Caraveile flew on May 27, 1955. Air France signed a contract for an initial order for 12 hi February 1956. Following certification in April 1959, Air France in augurated scheduled services on May 12, 1959. Caravelle 3 Powered by Avon 527s (RA.29/3) of 11,4001b static thrust, this !01.4131b version is a standard production aeroplane, to which all Caravelle 1 s have been converted. This version is operated by Air France, Air Algerie, SAS, Royal Air Maroc, Swissair, Alitalia, Air Liban, and Tunis-Air. This version has been ordered by United Air Lines, Iberia, Panair do Brasil, Varig, TAP, Cruzeiro do Sul, Austrian Airlines, and VASP. Caravelle 10A ("Horizon") This develop ment of the Caravelle 6 made its first flight on August 31. To take advantage of the in creased power of two GE CJ805-23C engines, a wing root leading edge extension, revised wing/fuselage junction fairing, and a fin/ tailplane intersection bullet permit an increase in the MNO from 0.77 to 0.81. The fuselage is extended by one metre to allow seating for up to 94, and the gross weight has been increased to 114,6401b. Powerplant: Two General Electric CJ 805-23C turbofans of 16,0001b thrust. Dimensions: Span, 112ft 6in; length, 108ft 4in; height empty, 28ft 7in; wing area, 1,579 sq ft; sweepback at \ chord, 20'.
