During firing, the nose and tail fairings are jettisoned and the missiles rippled in quick succession, whereupon the empty launcher may also be discarded. The complete cycle takes 0.3sec. Alter natively, the filled launcher may be jetti soned, and it is also possible to bring the empty launcher back for reloading. Four launchers may be carried by the J35 Draken. Company News Canadian Rolls-Royce Changes The appointment of Mr K. O. W. Crooks, AMiMechE, as vice-president, general man ager and director of Rolls-Royce of Canada Ltd, Montreal, with effect from Mr K. 0. W. Crooks, new vice- president of Rolls- Royce of Canada Ltd January 1, was announced recently. He succeeds Mr James Wood, BSC (Eng), who has held the positions since September 1960 and returns to the United Kingdom to take up a senior post with the parent company. Mr Crooks, who is 41, was project engineer on the civil Avon at Derby before being transferred to Canada, joining the Canadian organization in July 1962 as chief engineer. That post is now being filled by Mr Arthur B. Simpson, BSC, PEng, senior project engineer since 1961. He in turn is succeeded by Mr Peter B. Clay, AMiMechE, AMiprodE, PEng, formerly Tyne project engineer at Montreal. Herald Sales HQ As from January 1, the Handley Page Herald sales department is based at the company's offices at Crickle- wood, London NW2. The move from Woodley follows the transfer of all Herald production to Handley Page's two main factories at Cricklewood and Radlett. Fairchild-SASCO Agreement Under a recent agreement, Stewart Aeronautical Supply Co Ltd, Adastral House, Nutfield, near Redhill, Surrey, are to act as UK sales representative for the Defense Pro ducts Division of Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corporation. Fairchild military products they will market include recon naissance and mapping systems; data- processing, display and interpretation sys tems; communication, special television and radar systems; electronic control and ground-support equipment; and ordnance products. Darlington Chemicals Group The photo graph below was taken during the visit to Darlington Chemicals Ltd late last year by their local MP, acting on behalf of the Minister of State for the Board of Trade. One of the companies of the group is Darchem Engineering Ltd, at Stillington, who are one of the very few British firms to have secured a part in the European F-104G Starfighter programme. Darchem are supplying all the Refrasil high-tempera ture insulation blanket for these aircraft, and produce other Refrasil blankets for such aircraft as the Handley Page Herald, Avro 748, Blackburn Buccaneer, Whit worth Gloster Argosy and Hawker P. 1127. Another member of the group, the Chemical & Insulating Co Ltd, supplies Refrasil for European missiles. Douglas Japanese Representation It was announced recently that Mitsubishi Shoji Kaisha Ltd would represent Douglas Air craft Co in marketing its military aero space products and services in Japan. This announcement was made after formal signing of the contract at the Douglas offices in Santa Monica, Cal. The Mitsu bishi firm is one of the largest export-im port companies in Japan. Export Packing Changes Two new ap pointments have been announced by Ex port Packing Service Ltd. Mr L. J. Sains- bury, formerly sales manager, has been appointed general sales manager and will direct sales policy while also being respon sible for the marketing of new products. Mr J. R. Hope, previously factory manager, has been appointed general manager of the factory at Chipping Warden, Banbury. General Developments Director Mr Stan Usher has joined General Developments Co (Glasgow) Ltd as executive director. The company was formed recently to develop a wide range of products, with applications in the aircraft and other indus tries. Mr Usher served on the design staffs of Whitworth Gloster Aircraft, Fairmile Marine and Bristol Siddeley Engines before joining King Aircraft Corporation as chief technician. Mr A. T. Bourne-Arton, MP (centre), meets Mr C. L. Stocey, chief physicist of Darlington Chemicals Group's physics laboratory. Effecting the introduction, left, is Mr D.
