Linjeflyg's Convairs operate an extensive network, of domestic services in Sweden dad, Dhahran and Doha. Sabena provided technical and operational assistance but has now terminated all collaboration with LIA. Head Office: Rue Justinian, Beirut, Lebanon. Executives: A. Arida, president; Capt J. van Rooyen, manager. Fleet: one DC-6C and one DC-4 leased from Air Liban. Leeward Islands Air Transport Services Ltd was formed in 1956 as a subsidiary of BWIA, who have a 51 per cent holding. Mr H. L. Kimelman is the largest private shareholder in LIAT. LIAT operates services in the Leeward and Windward Islands. Head Office: Plymouth, Montserrat. West Indies Executives: Sir E. Dos Santos, chairman; E. R. Lum Hee, secretary. Fleet: two Heron 2, four Twin Bonanza. Lentohuolto O/Y operates taxi and charter services in Finland. Head Office: Malmi Airport, Helsinki. Executive: Roland Freund, managing director. Fleet: one Aero Commander 500, four Cessna !95, three Cessna 140. Liberian National Airways is a Government- owned airline which began operations in 1952. Internal services are operated from Roberts- field and Monrovia to four other points, and also to Freetown, Sierra Leone. Head Office: Robertsfield, Liberia. Executive: F. H. Syphert, president. Fleet: three DC-3. Libiavia—Nord Africa Aviazione SpA or NAA Libiavia was founded in 1931 and from 1946 concentrated on airline agency work. In July 1958 the company started its own air services, and now operates twice-weekly over the Tripoli - Benghazi - Athens route using DC- 6A/B equipment chartered from UAT. A Tripoli - Sebha service is also operated with DC-3s. All the company's capital is held by local interests. Head Office: Giaddat Istiklal 218 (PO Box No 245), Tripoli, Libya. Executives: Hag Mustapha Mezran, president; Mario L. Lotti, manager. Linair is the name of a recently formed Libyan charter operator that recently acquired a 22- passenger DC-3 from Sabena. Linair will probably continue the charter flying in support of oil-drilling operations which Sabena has been doing in Libya. Fleet: one DC-3. Linea Aerea del Cobre Ltda—LADECO operates DC-3s on domestic services within Chile between Santiago, Potrerillos, Anto- fagasta, and Calama, and also southwards from Santiago to Puerto Montt and Rio Cisnes. LADECO was formed in November 1958 to take over the domestic operations of another Chilean carrier, CINTA, which has since gone out of business. The DC-3s are fitted with more powerful R-l 830-94 engines to improve performance from high-altitude Chilean airfields. Head Office: Amunategui 73, Santiago, Chile. Employees: 43. Fleet: two DC-3. Linea Aerea Nacional de Chile—LAN was founded in 1932 by the Chilean Government to take over Linea Aeropostal Santiago Arica. The original fleet consisted of three Ford Tri- motors. The company has developed services throughout the length of Chile and inter national routes to Uruguay, Argentina, Peru, Panama and the US. Ex-Allegheny Convair 440s have been introduced on domestic services and jets are to be ordered shortly. The Trident and Caravelle are among the types being considered. Hingoyen, traffic and sales manager. Employees: 1,617. Fleet: seven DC-6B. four Convair 440. four Martin 2-0-2, 16 DC-3, one Beechcraft Bonanza. Linea Aeropostal Yenezolana—LAV was founded in 1933 when the Venezuelan Govern ment took over the routes and equipment of the Cie Gle Aeropostale which had begun operating in Venezuela in 1930. LAV began flying with Latecoere 28 monoplanes and the first new type to be introduced was the L-10 Electra. LAV took over TACA de Venezuela on July 1, 1957. In addition to internal services, regional services are operated to Trinidad and Curacao. The international services of LAV and Avensa are now operated by VIASA, and a complete reorganization of the domestic network has been taking place. LAV has a small holding in VIASA. Lineas Aereas Colombiana Expresa operates two Fairchild C-82s on internal services within Colombia. Lineas Aereas Costarricenses SA—LACSA was founded in 1945 by Pan American Air ways, the Government of Costa Rica and Costa Rican private interests. PA A originally held 36 per cent of the stock but is believed now to hold a smaller percentage. Scheduled operations began in 1946. In 1952 LACSA took over TACA de Costa Rica, which had operated since 1939 as one of the units of the TACA system. LACSA operates a network of internal services based on San Jose and also routes to Panama, El Salvador, Mexico, Cayman Islands and Miami. Head Office: Apartado 1531, San Jose, Costa Rica. Executives: Antonio Pena, president; Fer nando Cruz, general manager; Otto Escalante, operations manager. Fleet: one DC-6A/B, one DC-3, four C-46, one Convair 340. Lineas Aereas Patagonias Argentinas SRL is an Argentine non-scheduled carrier licensed to operate irregular freight services to various Latin American countries and the USA. Head Office: Buenos Aires, Argentina. Fleet: one Curtiss C-46. Lineas Aereas Unidas Mexicanas SA—• LAUMSA was formed in 1951 and operates within Mexico. Ex-TCA North Stars operate the "Petrol Route" between Mexico City, Poza Pica, Tampico and Monterry, while south of Mexico City Putla, Pinotepa, Ometepec and Cacahuatepec are served by DC-3s. Head Office: Izazaga 8-E, Mexico. Executive: Capt F. G. de Lara, managing director. Fleet: five DC-4M North Star, three DC-3, two C-46. Lineas Aereas de California SA—LAC was formed in 1958 and operated a regular service between Ensenada and Mexico City via Durango and Tepic. This carrier ceased opera tions in March 1961. FLIGHT International, 11 April 1963 529 Lineas Aereas de Nicaragua SA—LANICA was founded in June 1945 with Pan American Airways holding 40 per cent of the company's capital (now 20 per cent). Internal services were begun in 1946 with a fleet consisting of two Boeing 247 aircraft. At present the com pany serves six points in Nicaragua in addi tion to its home city. Managua, and operates international services using DC-6s to Miami and San Salvador at fares below IATA rates. Head Office: Managua. Nicaragua. Executives: Col L. A. Somoza. president; A. Fleet: one Fairchild C-82A Packet. Lineas Aereas del Estado—LADE, was founded in September 1940 as a branch of the Argentine Air Force to operate services to isolated areas which could not be worked as commercial undertakings. After the war these services were taken over by the commercial air lines but LADE has for some years been flying domestic services to points also served by private enterprise Argentine domestic opera tors and Aerolineas Argentinas. LADE is now authorized to operate non-scheduled inter national cargo services. Head Office: Buenos Aires. Argentina. Executives: Brig-Gen H. Rivara, director; J. F. Badin, general manager: D. Petronio. traffic manager. Fleet: Viking, DC-3, DC-4. Lineas Aereas del Paciflco SA operates non- scheduled services within Mexico. Head Office: Calle de Balderas 36, Despacho 501, Mexico, D.F. Executive: Mario Fernandez, manager. Lineas Aereas La Urraca is a Colombian carrier that operates scheduled domestic services between Villavicencio Mitu, Cali, Buenaventura, Pasto, Tumaco, Quibdo and Condoto. Head Office: Carrera 7, No 4474, Bogota, Colombia. Executives: Capt F. Henao, managing direc tor; Capt A. Henao, operations director. Fleet: Curtiss C-46. Lineas de Exprcsa CA Bolivar—LEBCA operates freight services between Caracas and Miami on an irregular basis. Head Office: Caracas, Venezuela. Executive: H. Perez, chairman. Fleet: two North Star, one DC-4, five C-46, two DC-3. Lineas lnteramericanos Aereas Ltda has operated internal services within Colombia since 1950. Head Office: Bogota, Colombia. Executive: G. D. Granados, president. Fleet: three C-46. Linee Aeree Sarde—LAS is an Italian heli copter airline formed in 1959 that signed a letter of intent for three Westland Westminsters in that year. With the discontinuation of further development of the Westminster, this carrier has expressed an intention to operate 40/45-seat helicopters over routes between Sardinia, Corsica, the French Riviera, the Italian mainland and Tunis. Scheduled opera tions have not yet been started, however. Head Office: Via Yser, Rome. Executive: Domenico Pocci, president. Linjeflyg AB was founded in 1957 to operate domestic passenger services in Sweden and to take over newspaper delivery services from another carrier, Airtaco. Operations began in April 1957. Charter and ambulance work is also undertaken. Linjeflyg is jointly owned by SAS (50 per cent), the two leading Swedish newspapers Dagens Nyheter AB (33J per cent), Stockholms Tidningen AB (8i per cent) and the Swedish newspaper distribution organization AB Svenska Pressbyran (8J per cent).
