FLIGHT International, 16 May 1963 730a Jarry Hydraulics (UK) Ltd The president of Jarry Hydraulics Ltd, Mr. Fernand Jarry, has announced the appointment of Mr John Truran as managing director of a new company to be known as Jarry Hydraulics (UK) Ltd, c/o Denison Deri Ltd, Victoria Gardens, Burgess Hill, Sussex. Mr Truran, who has recently arrived in England, will be fully responsible for the aircraft hydraulic components products of Jarry Hydraulics and the Aerospace Division of American Brake Shoe Co in England and on the Continent. The in tention is, eventually, to produce all these products in England. Mr Truran relin quishes his position as a vice-president of the Industrial Products Division of Jarry, but remains a vice-president of the company. Conference on Aluminium Twenty dele gates from 16 European, Middle East and North American countries visited Birming ham earlier this month for a four-day conference on aluminium. It was oganized by James Booth Aluminium Ltd (Kitts Green, Birmingham 33) for their main overseas agents. The conference was divided into four sections dealing with the production re sources and technical facilities of James Booth, and the industrial applications and sales of aluminium. Subjects discussed included the technical developments in the British aluminium industry and the world growth of the aluminium market. Highlights included a flying visit to Wey- bridge for a tour of Vicker-Armstrongs (Aircraft), followed by a visit to the Ruislip works of Duramin Engineering to see production fabrication of James Booth materials. USA FLIGHT SYSTEMS New Cessna Radios Following the now accepted practice of marketing, servicing (and, most important, guaranteeing) radio as part of the aircraft, Cessna have intro duced the "Cessna Crafted" 500 series radios, which can be provided either to American TSO Category B or lower standard. The sets are in building-block modules so that the range can be extended and all units will fit into the central radio panel of most Cessna aircraft. All indicators are remote so that they can be installed in the best positions on the panel. The Transceiver 500 is a plain com unit covering the 118.0 to 135.95Mc/s band at 50kc/s spacing. The Nav/Omni 500 covers all 1LS and VOR frequencies, as well as com reception channels up to 126.95Mc/s at 50kc/s spacing, and has a 20-channel glide-slope receiver with automatic channel ling. The Nav/Com 500 covers nav and com frequencies at 50kc/s spacing and includes an aural three-light marker receiver. Last of the present range of 500 radios is the ADF 500 radio compass with built-in tuning meter, but presumably optional BFO. It covers the 190 to 1,750kc/s band in three stages. The full range of "Cessna Crafted" 500 series radios and indicators in the radio panel of a Cessna Skymaster Terrain Radar Tested A US Navy Skyhawk is being used for the first high-speed trials of the General Dynamics/Electronics lightweight airborne terrain-following radar. The production system weighs only 401b and is installed in a small pod under the Skyhawk's fuselage for the 60-day test programme. The non-scanning aerial sys tem detects terrain ahead of the aircraft, the resultant signals being combined with radar altimeter information to generate climb or dive instructions in relation to a preselected terrain-clearance height. The signals can be applied to either a flight instrument for manual flying, or directly to the auto pilot. Both modes are being tested over a range of airspeeds. More and More Doppler Ryan has received a further order worth more than 8700,000 for AN/APN-130 Doppler radars from the US Navy for SH-3A and UH-2A helicopters. The APN-130 is also used in other military helicopters, both US and foreign. PRODUCTS Pressure Transducer Designed specifically for missile instrumentation, a miniaturized absolute pressure transducer which "main tains a highly accurate and stable electrical Giannini trans ducer. Dimensions are I in diameter by l\in length minimum range to zero to 5,0001b/sq in abs maximum range. The potentiometric output is held within a dynamic error band of ± 1 per cent in conditions up to 50g vibration and 75g acceleration. Media to be measured may be in either a gaseous or a liquid state. France Caravelle Servo Controls Air Equipment, 18 Rue Basly, Asnieres, Seine, have designed and manufactured hydraulic servo controls with increased power for the elevators of the six Caravelle lOBs to be delivered to Finnair. Two of these controls, one operating on standard fluid and the other on Skydrol 500A. recently completed endurance tests, a million operations being carried out under load. Air Equipment state that "examination following these tests showed that the qualities of the servo controls remained unchanged and that all parts were in excellent condition." Overhaul life will be 3,000hr. Ratier-Figeac FAA Award The US Feder al Aviation Agency representatives in France recently awarded M Gabriel G. Forest, president and general manager of Societe Anonyme Ratier-Figeac, with a PI IN FAA certificate for the R-F FH.76 propeller for the Astazou. This was the first time, it has stated, that an FAA certificate of this type has been given to a European propeller manufacturer. FH.76s are used on the Do27. Pilatus Porter, Potez 840, Sferma/Beech Marquis and Sipa Antilope, and are being installed on the Riley-modified D.H. Dove, Shin Mitsu bishi XMU-2 and Short Skyvan. EFA Exports During 1962, 40 per cent of total sales by EFA (Etudes et Fabrications Aeronautiques, 44BlvrdJean-Jaures, Clichy, Seine), were for export, and the company booked orders amounting to NFlOm, exclusive of taxes, which was a record figure, with foreign customers accounting fcr 70 per cent. Since the beginning of this year, EFA have received further orders from foreign countries, notably Norway, South Africa, Italy and the Netherlands. The RNAF has chosen the EFA parachute with chrono-barometric handgrip for F-104 pilots. output through an extreme vibration range" has been developed by the Transducer Division of Giannini Controls Corp, 1600 S Mountain Avenue, Duarte, Calif. Designated model 461319, it provides measurements from zero to 3001b/sq in abs Canada Canadian Aircraft Galleys A leaflet des cribing aircraft galley units and equipment designed and manufactured by Timmins Aviation Ltd is available from the company at Montreal International Airport, Dorval, Quebec. One of the Timmins units, for TCA's new DC-8Fs, was illustrated on this page for April 25; and the company's aircraft galley and equipment division— only recently formed—was referred to in Flight International for February 28.
