Le nouvel helicoptere de I'US Army, VH-ID Iroquois, fait ses debuts au Bourget. II detienl trois records mondiaux (cites plus haut) et va faire un tour de demonstration en Europe apres le Salon. Cette derniere version du Iroquois est equipee d'une turbine Lycoming T53-L-9 de UOOcv et est capable d'emporter 13 passagers ou des missiles, roquettes ou mitrailleuses. En plus, la societe presente le petit helicoptere civil 47G-3B-1 equipe d'un moteur avec turbo- compresseur. On show is the company's standard range of products, which includes hoses and connecting sleeves for air-conditioning, anti-icing and similar systems, various types of engine and airframe seals, hose-end fittings, vee-clamp assemblies, and synthetic rubber mouldings and extrusions. Among the new products is a range of Janitrol metal vee-flanges and clamps, which the company is arranging to manufac ture, under licence, in Great Britain for supply to the European market. This shows the latest concept in hot and cold gas flight-stabilization control plus the sun seeker steering device. The Bendix two-way data bio medical belt pack will enable doctors to check physical condition, and to talk to astronauts on the moon and will allow the astronaut complete freedom from encumbering cables while exploring other planets. The pressure suit ventilator provides the pilot or astronaut with means of ventilation and air conditioning. It is hand-carried and self-contained. To show the complete Bendix capabilities in the space field there is a graphic conception of the areas of interest to engineers, comprising letdown, approach and landing; advanced displays and controls; spacecraft rendezvous computer; satellite control and stabilization. Also shown are the latest integral probes, liquid level sensors used in liquid oxygen systems, and a model of the latest thermionic converter, designed to absorb solar heat and convert it into electrical energy at distances of from 92 to 168m miles from the sun. There is also a model of a lunar landing gear, using crushable material to absorb landing impact on the moon. The story of Bendix participation in various programmes such as Project Mercury, Mini- track, etc, is represented. Bendix also show the latest in aircraft and avionics equipment, including a radar alti meter, a personal communications system; a 75kVA brushless air-cooled a.c. generator; a static inverter; static regulated voltage regulator; control panel and all transistorized d.c. voltage regulator; fluid pump; and fuel injection system. The newest airborne weather radar is shown, together with DME trans ponders, marker beacons, and glideslope receivers. Additionally there is the PHI (position homing indicator), manufactured by the Bendix affiliate Computing Devices of Canada Ltd. BMW are exhibiting on the joint German aircraft industry stand and are showing, in addition to components they make for the J79 engine of the F-104G, a cut-away model of the little BMW 6012 turbine, which has been used to drive generators, fire pumps, pipeline pumps and heating installations. It is used also to power the Greer hydraulic test set for the F-104G and is shown fitted to the WS-64 cargo helicopter. In this case it drives a hydraulic pump and generator, the former providing power for starting the main engines and for the cargo hoists. The helicopter is thus inde pendent of all ground services before the main engines are started. The small turbine is itself started hydraulically. The 6012 has also been installed in a glider.
