The company state that the versatile modular connectors enable a customer to choose and order any connector in which the number of contacts may reach 160 without the need for an extractor, and even 400, with an extractor. This engine culminates an extensive develop ment programme which has produced more than 9,000 small gas turbines for world-wide applications. Also shown for the first time is a mock-up of the environmental control system developed for Project Gemini, the two-man, two-week space vehicle. This system creates an artificial environment for the astronauts while they orbit the Earth at temperatures and pressures so extreme they could only survive for seconds if unprotected. Garrett's central air data system for the F-104 is shown. This system serves as the nerve centre for all electronic systems of this aircraft. In all, a total of 45 components and systems are on display. It also produces advanced Terrier guided missile systems for the US Navy and is developing the Redeye, a new surface-to-air guided missile system, for the US Army and US Marine Corps. 844 FLIGHT International, 6 June 1963 At Paris is featured the Tartar, which now arms 19 ships of the US Navy and is included in shipbuilding plans for France, Italy, Australia and Japan. Also featured is the Mauler weapon system now under develop ment for the US Army. A one-third scale model of Mauler is displayed. Tartar is 15ft long and slightly more than a foot in diameter. It contains a complex hom ing system, a two-stage rocket motor and a new type of auxiliary power supply. The Mauler system consists of the missiles themselves, a weapon pod and a carrier vehicle. This systsm is completely self-contained, possessing its own acquisition and tracking radar, com puters, launcher, communication system and associated equipment. The centrepiece of GEC's stand is a display of the Z.A.707 VASI (visual approach slope indicator) equipment which is installed at many international airports. Also on the stand is a representative display of airfield approach, runway and taxiway lighting. This includes the Z.A.406 and the Z.A.401 high- and low-intensity approach lights; the Z.A.105 high-intensity bi-directional runway light; the Z.A.106 uni-directional high-intensity runway light; the Z.A.109 and the Z.A.201B centre line runway and taxiway lights; and the Z.A. 759 high-intensity neon obstruction light. All the lights on the stand are operating "live." From its comprehensive range of airborne catering equipment in use with over 100 airlines and air forces, the company is showing a water- storage heater, a hotcupboard, a rapid water boiler, a heater container, a beverage con tainer and an air circulation oven.
