Hamilton Standard integral gearbox (United Aircraft) PARIS 1963... Division, 12 models of Sikorsky helicopters, including the latest in production, the rear- loading S-61R and the CH-53A, and blade inspection system; United Aircraft of Canada, PT-6 turboprop/turboshaft engine. The Pratt & Whitney JT3D is installed in variants of the Boeing 707 and Douglas DC-8 and also powers the forthcoming Lockheed C-141 Starlifter military transport. The JT8D powers the Boeing 727 and is ordered for a version of the Caravelle. The JT12 is used in the Lockheed Jetstar, North American Sabre- liner, Fairchild SD-5 surveillance drone, and the new Lockheed XV-4A Hummingbird VTOL research aircraft. Types using the J-52 are the Grumman A-6 Intruder, Douglas A-4E Skyhawk and North American Hound Dog air-to-surface missile. The PT-6 is mentioned separately under United Aircraft of Canada. Vibrachoc anti-vibration and shock-isolat ing mountings FLIGHT International, 6 June 1963 885 turboprop/turboshaft gas turbine, has been released for production and deliveries are scheduled to commence late in 1963. A light weight, free-turbine engine, it develops 600 h.p., flat-rated to 550 h.p. providing hot-day performance. In the current phase of the pre- production programme, the engine is operating in a variety of applications. The PT6 turbo- shaft powers the Hiller Ten 99, Piasecki 16H, and Lockheed CL-595 helicopters. The turboprop version, in addition to operations in the company's Beech 18 flying testbed, powers the de Havilland twin-engine STOL research aircraft and CL-84 tilt-wing VTOL. Stand B.19. "Vibrashock" all-metal, anti-vibration and shock-isolating mountings exhibited on this stand were originally developed for the American aircraft and missile industries by Robinson Technical Products Inc, of Teter- boro, New Jersey. Under two separate licence agreements the French company Societe Vibrachoc and Delaney Gallay Ltd, of Cricklewood, London, are rapidly bringing the advantages of these mountings to European aircraft constructors and operators. It is stated that the stainless-steel wire mesh cushions either alone, or in conjunction with coil springs, and suitably arranged in pairs or sets, can be designed into very simple and reliable vibration and shock-isolating systems to give the sort of performance in the isolation of vibration and shock which would normally be associated only with the most carefully designed and developed combinations of non linear springs and viscous dampers. Vibrasson, 9 Rue Due, Paris 18e, France. Stand B.34. This French company represents the British company Fairey Air Surveys Ltd, which is Ward Brooke plastic components Below, Vibrasson 10,0001b thrust vibration actuator (Fairey Air Surveys) itself a subsidiary of the Fairey Co Ltd. On the Vibrasson stand there is equipment de veloped by Fairey Air Surveys Ltd, comprising a working exhibit of a hydraulic powered vibration actuator, complete with hydraulic power unit and electronic control system. In addition there is a working model of a four- actuator car rig in which the individual actu ators are controlled from multi-channelled magnetic tape. A similar system would be equally applicable to a multi-actuator vibra- tion system for ground tests on complete air craft or parts of aircraft structure. Un tel systtme servirait pour les essais en vibration d'une cellule entidre. Ward Brooke & Co Ltd, Westbourne Street, High Wycombe, Bucks, England. Stand C.81. United Aircraft of Canada Ltd, P.O. Box 10, Longueuil, Quebec, Canada. Stand A.44. Under its previous name of Canadian Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Co Ltd, this company was incorporated in 1928 for aero engine supply and overhaul. Over the years it has expanded greatly, extending its operations into many new areas—propellers, aircraft accessories, elec tronic components, the helicopter field and, more recently, research and development of small gas turbine engines.
