1963 - 0932.PDF
FLIGHT International, 13 June 1963 As discussed in the text, the Fiat G.222 Cervino has been planned to meet the requirements of the Italian Government for a military VjSTOL transport, and is the subject of a design study contract. This aero plane is also being discussed with the German Government, and is expected to have possible civil applications (Alitalia are known to be interested in the design). The three-view drawing shows the con figuration very clearly, especially the unpressurized box fuselage and the Rotodyne-like plan shape. The model below reveals the manner in which the lift-engine doors open, each door having axial shutters; an unusual feature of this RB.I62 installation is that each lift bay lies in the slipstream from a propeller 903 The other new Fiat V/STOL design is the G.95/4, which, as outlined in the accompanying text, has progressed through a series of metamorphoses before finally assuming the form shown here. It is a neat and logical design, and the Italian Government have placed a substantial design study contract with Fiat Aviazione, who are being assisted on this air craft by virtually all the major Italian airframe companies. Points worthy of note are the location of the wing, airbrakes, main undercarriage and four lift units (again uprated RB./62/3Is), each of the latter having four axial shutters in a large hinged door
