These were at North Weald and Hucknall (organized by the Royal Air Forces Associa tion), Church Fenton (organized by the Soldiers', Sailors' and Airmen's Families' Association) and Rosahilly, Co Fermanagh. NI. Other aircraft involved were USAF, Tiger Club, Republic Aviation Corporation and privately owned machines. Sunny skies formed an appropriate back ground for the day's shows, but both at jNorth Weald and Hucknall strong winds caused the cancellation of some parachute and glider items. The former display had the pleasure of the ten-Lightning 56 Sqn Firebirds" Fighter Command aerobatic team led by Sqn Ldr D. J. Seward, making their public debut, plus a solo Lightning from 111 Sqn flown by Fit Lt Alan Garside: Hucknall had "The Red Pelicans" of the Central Flying School in their Jet Provosts, Air Marshal Sir Valston Hancock, RAAF CAS, with the team he leads to France, UK and US to seek a Canberra replacement. Robb as did Church Fenton, where the red machines "made a magnificent picture etched against a brilliant blue sky with grey smoke trails interlacing as they went through various manoeuvres." A corres pondent who was at the Yorkshire airfield describes the arrival of an Avro 748 of BKS from Leeds/Bradford Airport with a load of special edition evening newspapers, the pilot, Capt P. Owen, then putting on "a polished show which included a steep climb-out that raised many a Service eyebrow." One of the more unusual features at North Weald and Hucknall was the P-47 display by Mr Glenn Bach, chief produc tion test pilot of Republic Aviation Cor poration, which brought back wartime memories to the older spectators and gave the younger ones some idea of what fighter aircraft used to look like. The display at Rosahilly airfield, which included a Comet demonstration and aero batics by a Vampire, from Valley, v/as organized by the owner, Mr Victor West, and by Mr Ian Cooper, chairman of the Fermanagh Tourist Development Com mittee. The Javelins, from Leuchars. under the squadron com mander, Wg Cdr A.J. Owen, were meeting the presidential aircraft outside territorial waters and escorting it to Prestwick, then breaking off. the aircraft continuing to Gatwick. Uppsala Delegation SWEDISH VISITORS TO THE RAF from June 6 to 12 were a contingent from the Royal Swedish Air Force College at Uppsala— eight officers and 16 cadets, led by Col R. G. Svartengren—who flew in to Bin- brook in Saab J-29s, with three Dakotas bringing a ground support party. The visitors saw something of the work of the Central Fighter Establishment at Binbrook and subsequently (June 11) went to Cottes more to take a look at Bomber Command activities. FINALS OF THE HACK TROPHY COMPETITION are being flown at the Central Flying School, Little Rissington, on June 22. Three of the finalists are St Andrews, Durham and Southampton (the holders) University Air Squadrons; the fourth will be determined by the north-western area finals at Wood- vale on June 19. 500 (COUNTY OF KENT) SQN Old Comrades Association is anxious to contact as many ex-members as possible in connection with the presentation of the squadron standard by Lord Avon on September 21. The cere mony will take place at 2.30 p.m. at Maid stone Barracks, after which the standard will be laid-up in All Saints Church. A reunion dinner at the Royal Star Hotel will follow.
