Motoimport SM-/W Sipa Antilope The Hawker P. 1127, which was to have performed before the Draken, remained grounded, and it was later learned that difficulties were being experienced. In the VTOL context of our story this was a sorry circumstance, for the 1127 had caused a great flurry when it arrived at Le Bourget and, of course, it is renowned as much in Europe as in Britain for its altogether remarkable—indeed, unique —capabilities. There was trouble, too, with the English Electric Lightning T.5—reheat difficulties which inhibited its display. At this point in the proceedings the present writer was compelled. for reasons given earlier, to make a hasty departure. He handed over to a colleague, who later reported as follows:— The Breguet 941, which demonstrated after the Lightning, gave a wholly convincing demonstration of its ability to operate from 650ft strips. It took off in about 400ft, carrying three jeeps, then made figure-of-eight manoeuvres within the confines of the airfield at astonishingly low speed and with noticeably less noise than did the nearest size in helicopters. A fast run with everything tucked away was made before a landing in about 300ft, to discharge the Dassault Mirage IIIC •fir Smmmm mm
