It is stated that "although no longer articipating actively in aviation develop- lent, Mr Nicholson foresees a great otential for the new projectors and their ssociated sound equipment as flight raining aids for crew briefing, aircraft imiliarization, airport approach familiar- tation and as passenger information points t air terminals. In fact, among several viation companies already using the irojectors are BEA, where the equipment 5 employed in the flight training centre, and Jeagle, who are using the portable model as i sales aid." At present two models are available, the !00E (transportable) and 800R (portable). 3oth accept 8mm films of up to 6min luration, which can be shown "within econds of setting-down the projector" by nerely plugging-in a cassette. Humble, MBE, has been appointed an executive director of Hawker Siddeley Aviation Ltd. He will assist the deputy chairman and managing director, Mr J. T. Lidbury, "on certain matters connected with sales and be particularly responsible for liaison between the three divisions and headquarters on matters relating thereto." "Bill" Humble is a former Hawker Aircraft chief test pilot (1946-48) and was responsible for the first flight of the P. 1040. He subsequently became the company's sales manager, then HSG regional executive in the Middle East (1950-58), and until his new appointment was international sales manager, Hawker Siddeley Aviation Ltd. R.F.D. and G.Q. Referring to the R.F.D. jCo Ltd offer to acquire all the issued capital of the G.Q. Parachute Co Ltd and the G.Q. directors' recommendation that the offer should be accepted (this page, last week), G.Q. state that this is "a logical and welcome development after many years of close co-operation between the two com panies." It is expected that present negot iations will be satisfactorily completed by early October. The late Mr R. F. Dagnall, founder of R-F.D., was also a founder/director of G Q., together with the late Sir Raymond Quilter and the present G.Q. managing director, Mr Arthur C. Dickinson. R.F.D. have two subsidiaries in Australia, in one of which it is already associated with G.Q., as well as an investment in an associate company in Holland. G.Q. are involved in a considerable volume of work with heavy su Pply-dropping and parachute brake equipment, and the company recently announced acceptance of its stabilized Parachute ejection seat equipment for the ^aab Draken, following a successful joint development programme with Saab. 300a Castrol Overseas Managers Mr Kenneth Torrens, who for the past ten years has been assistant manager of the Castrol Aviation Department, has taken up the post of manager of the Group Overseas Division of Castrol Ltd with Mr Roy Street, whose appointment will date from November 1. They jointly succeed Mr W. F. Freestone, who has retired after 37 years' service to the group, in the UK and India. USA Loral and Contraves A cross-licensing agreement covering both military and industrial electronic equipment has been signed between Loral Electronics Corp and Contraves AG. The latter will have manu facturing and selling rights in most north western European countries for navigation, display, aerospace and electronic warfare equipment, while Loral will have similar US rights for naval fire-control systems, missile telemetry, parallax computers and network analysers. Mr Edward W. Pike, appointed regional director — business administration (United Kingdom) for General Precision Inc. His offices will be in Bilton House, Ealing, London W5, and he succeeds Mr Ivor Sowen, who resigned Bendix Acquire Motorola An agreement to buy the assets of Motorola Aviation Electronics Inc, Culver City, Calif, has been signed by the Bendix Corporation, who state that "the Motorola product line will be a welcome new addition to the existing products of the Bendix Avionics Product Group because these superior equipments enjoy the confidence of the entire general aviation community. With the acquisition of the Motorola designs and our other planned product developments in this area, Bendix will have an extensive line for the growing general aircraft market." Principal Motorola products are automatic direction finding equipment, automatic flight control, communications-navigation and compass data systems, all designed for use in business, executive and light aircraft. Included in the Bendix acquisition are product design and inventory as well as all manufacturing and engineering equipment of the Motorola aviation products business. It is stated that Motorola decided to sell the business because, "to accomplish the desired growth rate for their equipment it would be necessary to broaden the market base through a more complete product line. Bendix's product development programme in this field should provide the growth climate needed for this product line." The Motorola distribution organization Mr Herb 0. Bendix avionics equipment for world airlines "will be in no way affected by these develop ments." Spaceflight Fuel Production A plant built and operated by Air Products and Chemicals Inc, Allentown, Penn, for the USAF, recently reached what was described as a new milestone in liquid oxygen/ nitrogen production for the space pro gramme. The plant, at Santa Susana, Calif, on June 1 produced the one millionth ton of liquid oxygen/nitrogen since it started in late 1956. Designed to produce over 400 tons per day, it has far exceeded design capacity in reaching the lm ton mark. The Santa Susana plant is one of five built and operated by Air Products for the Air Force; together they have provided most of the liquid oxygen for rocket testing and launching. Total production from these plants reached 2m tons in 1962. France Polycell French Distributors SIPEG Emanuel, 63 Avenue Franklin D. Roose velt, Paris, have been appointed distributors for the whole of France for Polycell's industrial products—Polyclens, Polywash and Polystrippa. The first two of these three products are already extensively used at international airports—notably Brussels and Paris Orly—for cleaning terminal buildings and for removing oil and grease from runways and parking areas. Balzac Ejection Societe Francaise d'Ex- ploitation des Materiels Martin-Baker (SEM Martin-Baker), the organization formed between Hispano-Suiza and Martin- Baker Aircraft following their 1959 co operation agreement on ejection seats, has since that date licence-produced and delivered 405 seats. The company have produced a ground-level ejection seat for VTOL aircraft, and one of this type is installed in the Dassault Balzac.
