Aerovias Panama Airways—APA was foundedin 1951 as Aerovias Interamericana de Panama SA (Avispa) and began operationsmainly as a cargo carrier using C-46s leased from the Colombian carrier Lineas Inter-americanos. In 1952 the company was desig- nated by the Panama Government to operatea Panama - Miami route. Low-fare DC-6B services link Panama to Miami, Guayaquil,Barranquilla, Bogota, Maracaibo, Caracas, and Lima. Charter work in the Congo is alsobeing undertaken. Aerovias Rojas SA is a Mexican carrier thatoperates a thrice-weekly DC-3 service between Oaxaca and Ixtepec in southern Mexico.Head Office: 8 Avenida 5 de Mayo, Oaxaca, Mexico.Fleet: DC-3. Aerovias Sud Americana Inca—ASA Inter- national Airlines was founded in 1947 as a con-tract cargo carrier operating a route from Tampa, Florida, to Havana. In December1952 it was granted by the US Government the first international all-cargo certificate as ascheduled carrier. In December 1959 this certificate was renewed, adding Miami (as aco-terminal) and many foreign points. ASA now has the right to serve El Salavador, Hon-duras, British Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecua-dor and Peru. Cargo services from Miami to as far south as Guayaquil are operated, servingSan Salvador, Panama City, Bogota and Quito. A CAB examiner has approved themerger of ASA and Riddle Airlines, but this merger has now been dismissed by the CAB.Head Office: International Airport, St Peters- burg, Florida, USA.Executives: F. S. Aerovias Venezolanas SA—AVENSA wasformed in July 1943 by Venezuelan interests and Pan American Airways, who owned 30per cent of the capital. Regular domestic services were begun in 1944 and internationaloperations commenced in June 1955. Domestic routes are operated by DC-3s, Convairs andDC-6Bs, while C-46s and DC-3s operate domestic cargo services. The internationalservices of AVENSA and LAV were merged in 1961 to form VIASA, in which AVENSAhas a 45 per cent holding. AVENSA con- tinues to operate domestic services under itsown name.
