670 RIGHT International, 23 April 1964 Fabrique Nationale d'Armes de Guerre (F.N.)—test bed for turbojet accessories Right, Fiat G.9I of the Italian National Aerobatic Team Feinmechanische powered flight control Master control unit of new Ferranti lightweight compass system HANOVER SHOW . . . RB.145 engines. Design and development of the lift/thrust engine system was handled largely by Rolls-Royce at Hucknall; two of the engines are fixed in the forward fuselage and the remainder are in swivelling double pods on the wing-tips. Fight development of the first aircraft, designated 101C XI, began on April 10 last year. The X2 aircraft has engines fitted with reheat, raising their thrust from 2,7501b to 3,7501b, and will be able to fly at supersonic speeds. EWR Siid have also developed a larger V/STOL tactical strike aircraft which, although designated VJ 101D, is of quite different design. It is powered by a combination of Rolls-Royce/MAN RB.153 propulsion turbo- fans with reheat and thrust deflection, and RB.162 pure lift units. The recent announce- ment of the selection of the FW1262 as the basis for a joint German/Italian V/STOL tactical aircraft to replace the Fiat G.91 may bring about termination of the VJ 101D programme. Europe Air Service, 3 Quai Gallieni, Suresnes, Seine, France. Formed jointly by SFERMA, SEPR and Saint Chamond Granat to represent their products and those of other companies in Europe, Europe Air Service is displaying at Hanover the Rank Cintel Peep head-up display, the Tacan instrumentation made by J. Oster and now assembled under licence in France, and the Ekco E.I90 lightweight weather radar. Fabrique Nationale d'Armes de Guerre (F.N.), Herstal-Iez-Liege, Belgium. Being active in the production under licence or the overhaul of several turbojet engines, F.N. are exhibiting components of the Rolls- Royce Avon, Orenda and GE J79, including turbine assemblies, discs and combustion chambers, oil scavenge pumps and control units, actuators and a flow-control unit. Feinmechanische Werke Mainz GmbH, Korner- strasse 2, Mainz-Mombach, West Germany. Products of this company includes hydraulic powered controls with autopilot, damper and trim inputs, actuators for flaps, airbrakes and nosewheel steering, electro-hydraulic servo flow-control valves, dual air pressure regu- lators and special mobile test stands for pneumatic or hydrualic systems with pressures up to 7,0001b/sq in. Armament, turret and launcher controls for ground-based weapons installations are also offered. The company is associated with Cadillac-Jordan GmbH. Ferranti Ltd, Hollinwood, Lanes, England. Exhibits by this company's Scottish Group of factories include photographic displays of the following systems which are fitted to TSR.2 aircraft. (1) Forward-looking radar that gives the ability to perform terrain-following flight at very low levels and high speed. OT Inertial platform providing accurate medium- term navigation information for the Doppief/ inertia mix navigation system and a dynamic reference for the aircraft flight-control system- (3) Moving map displays for pictorial presenta- tion to the crew of navigational information. (4) Airstream direction detection system, pro-
